The actions of judges Juan Carlos Peinado and Antonio Viejo once again focused the debate this Wednesday on Malas lenguas (La 1 and La 2), after the Central Operative Unit (UCO) has again expressed its discomfort over the obstacles that, in its opinion, it is encountering in the investigation into Alberto González Amador, partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso. During the program, the former lawyer of the Constitutional Court Joaquín Urías maintained that Peinado is not "an exception" within the judiciary and also pointed to the role played by Viejo.
Jesús Cintora asked Urías about the perception that some judicial procedures advance at different speeds depending on the case. The jurist responded by rejecting the idea that Peinado's behavior is an isolated case: "There are judges who say that Peinado is a strange judge, that he is an exception, that he does strange things. Well, he may be an exception, but it turns out that it's not just Judge Peinado, there are others. Judge Viejo does not seem to be behaving as in all cases."
Urías cited as an example the investigation into the alleged tax fraud of Alberto González Amador. He recalled that the request to access certain tax information was made months ago and criticized the slowness of the procedure: "On the issue of investigating Ayuso, he has not yet decided. He has issued an order saying 'I will investigate it later', but it is also true that this was requested in December of last year. He has been deciding for six months whether we are going to investigate the accounts of this gentleman who seems to have defrauded the Treasury. That care, how slowly it goes, is very striking," he stated.
The former lawyer also questioned the resolution signed by Antonio Viejo during Peinado's substitution, by which he authorized Begoña Gómez to travel to the United Kingdom to attend her daughter's graduation, but rejected that she could travel to Ankara to accompany the Prime Minister at the NATO summit. For Urías, that decision is "incomprehensible" and insufficiently motivated. "Does anyone really believe that the wife of the Prime Minister is going to escape justice by taking advantage of a summit?" he asked before adding that "the order does not clarify it" and that, "ultimately, it seems that the decision is political".
