Pedro Piqueras showed this Tuesday in Mañaneros 360 his disagreement with the conviction of David Sánchez and assured that, in view of everything that happened during the investigation, it is difficult for him to understand how the procedure has reached this point. "I don't understand how it has come to this, after knowing everything we know, how much has been lied about David Sánchez and how his figure has been used to weaken Pedro Sánchez, which is the real objective of all this. I don't know how there was a case," he affirmed.
The journalist differentiated between the work of Justice and the actions of certain magistrates, refusing to speak of a generalized lawfare, although he did maintain that there are judges who, in his opinion, act "with apparent predilection" and in a "somewhat merciless" way. In his opinion, this perception has generated growing distrust among part of the citizenry and has left a "bitter feeling of fragility" regarding some judicial actions.
Piqueras also referred to the investigation into Begoña Gómez and criticized the prolongation of procedures that, he said, end up causing a "news report penalty." In that sense, he lamented that both she and David Sánchez have seen their daily lives conditioned by media pressure and the constant monitoring of some agitators. "It's a not letting live," he summarized.
Finally, the journalist pointed out that this whole scenario could end up having a political effect contrary to that sought by those who promote criticism of the Government. In his opinion, the current climate of confrontation "will have to be rewritten in the future," considering that with the passage of time, the political use of certain judicial processes and the intensity of the polarization experienced in recent years will be analyzed with greater perspective.
About Rajoy's speech: "Maintaining those prejudices is the triumph of the old guard"
The journalist also showed himself especially critical of Mariano Rajoy during his intervention, where he assessed the controversy generated by the former president's statements about the French national team before the World Cup final. The journalist described his words as "unacceptable" and defended that a figure who has held the Presidency of the Government must exercise extreme caution when making this type of statement.
"When a person who has been president of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain speaks, they must be much more prudent when issuing certain messages," he said. Furthermore, he considered that Rajoy achieved the opposite effect to what he probably intended: "He managed to spur on the French players for tonight's match." In contrast, he vindicated Lamine Yamal's words, recalling that "sport serves to integrate and not to separate."
Piqueras also wanted to delve into the background of the debate and linked that discourse with an exclusionary vision of national identity. In his opinion, Rajoy's words respond to an idea that a part of Spanish society still shares and that evoke historical stages that should be overcome. "It's like returning to purity of blood," he stated, before adding that questioning the nationality of people based on their origin or skin color is reminiscent of prejudices typical of another era.
Finally, the veteran journalist defended that "the future will be mixed-race or it will not be" and lamented that certain discourses are once again occupying space in public debate. In his opinion, accepting this type of approach means "walking backward" and normalizing ideas that "only ten years ago would have been unacceptable", concluding that maintaining these prejudices represents "the triumph of the old guard."
