A day after being sworn in as president of the Junta de Andalucía with the votes of PP-A and Vox, Juanma Moreno admitted in an interview on 'Cadena Cope' that he considered calling new elections before closing the agreement with Vox, and that he ruled it out for the interest of the Andalusians. "I have thought that the general interest of Andalusians is that there be stability and government above my particular interest," he affirmed.

The president has recognized that repeating elections would have allowed him to preserve his "vanity" and his "principles," but that this option would have left Andalusia without a government for more than half a year. "I am not happy for one reason," he admitted, "because my goal was to govern alone."

In the results of the elections held on May 17, the PP-A obtained 53 seats, just two short of the absolute majority that would have allowed it to govern without the need for partners. Without that margin, Moreno was forced to negotiate, and the result has been a "Government and stability agreement for Andalusia" with Vox that includes 150 "highly negotiated" measures, as the president himself stressed. Despite this initial discomfort, Moreno has expressed confidence that the legislature will be "stable, that it will last the corresponding four years; that it will be fruitful" and that the relationship between both parties will be cordial. "Governing is very difficult, one has many disappointments and there are many uncertainties to face," he said, highlighting the need to maintain "an atmosphere of cordiality and positivity" in the Executive.

The Andalusian president has also made it clear that he will continue to lead the government. "I am president and I am the one who sets the pace of the government, and I am not going to change," he declared, recalling that he is not the first Andalusian president to govern with the support of another party. Moreno has expressed his aspiration to lead "a government where the majority of citizens feel represented and the majority of their interests are defended."
