Four municipalities in Granada register five earthquakes during the early morning

Granada has once again registered seismic activity during the early hours of this Friday. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has counted a total of five earthquakes in different parts of the province, two of them with magnitudes of 2.2 and 2.4 and which were perceived by part of the population.

The first movements were located in Armilla, where two tremors occurred with barely eleven minutes of difference. The first took place at 3:54 AM, four kilometers deep, while the second was registered at 4:05 AM and had its focus on the surface, at 0.0 kilometers, being felt by residents.

The seismic activity continued during the early morning with another earthquake in Ogíjares at 5:44 AM. This movement, also with a depth of 0.0 kilometers, was perceived by the population. The remaining two quakes had their epicenter in Alhendín and La Zubia, with magnitudes of 1.9 and 1.7 degrees, respectively.

The earth shakes again in the early morning

Seismic activity continues in Granada. Residents in different parts of the province have once again felt several tremors during the early hours of this Thursday, in a new succession of movements registered by the National Geographic Institute (IGN). In total, six earthquakes have been recorded, although the most notable was the one that occurred at 2:15 AM in Dílar, with a magnitude of 3.4 and an epicenter located five kilometers deep. The quake once again woke up some residents and led the 112 Andalucía emergency service to receive calls from Granada capital, Maracena, Las Gabias, and Alhendín, without any new damages being reported so far.

The activity did not end with that movement. Between 2:28 and 6:28 hours, five other tremors occurred, with magnitudes of up to 2.2 and epicenters distributed throughout Gójar, Ogíjares, La Zubia and again Dílar. These movements are in addition to those registered during the early hours of Wednesday, when six earthquakes were also recorded in different parts of the province. That succession began after the magnitude 3.4 earthquake registered on Tuesday at 10:35 p.m. in Ogíjares, whose epicenter was located at zero kilometers deep. Subsequently, at 1:45 a.m. and 2:34 a.m., two other movements occurred in La Zubia and Las Gabias, with magnitudes of 1.7 and 1.8. Between 4:07 a.m. and 5:43 a.m., four other tremors arrived in Otura, Alhendín, Ogíjares and Gójar, with magnitudes between 1.6 and 2.5. The last one was the most intense of that morning, with a magnitude of 2.58 according to the IGN.

The succession of earthquakes occurs after the magnitude 5 earthquake registered last Saturday at 1:04 a.m., with an epicenter in Alhendín, which marked a turning point in the seismic activity of the province. Since then, the movements have been repeated in different municipalities and have even forced preventive measures to be adopted. This Tuesday, about 600 people from 371 homes were preventively evacuated in Las Gabias after another earthquake. Given the persistence of the tremors, the Junta de Andalucía maintains the pre-emergency phase of the Plan against Seismic Risk activated in Granada, while the IGN continues to monitor the movements registered in the province.
