Junqueras urges Junts to back new Catalan funding and warns them: "The best thing it can do is be useful"

The growth of Aliança Catalana reflected in the latest survey by the Centre for Opinion Studies (CEO) has led Oriol Junqueras this Monday to send a new message to Junts. The leader of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya has urged Carles Puigdemont's party to support initiatives such as the debt forgiveness of the Autonomous Liquidity Fund (FLA), the investment consortium, or the new financing model for Catalonia, and has warned that the lack of political utility can end up having electoral consequences.

"When you are never useful, it can happen that some of your voters end up voting for any useless person," he stated in an interview with 'SER Catalunya', where he defended that both parties should be able to collaborate on issues that, in his opinion, benefit Catalonia.

During the interview, Junqueras regretted that Junts maintains its rejection of the financing model agreed between ERC and the PSC, as well as the investment consortium. For this reason, he asked the pro-independence party to facilitate the parliamentary processing of these measures and argued that doing so would be positive both for Catalonia and for Carles Puigdemont's own party.

Junqueras has urged both parties to put aside the political wear and tear they have been dragging for months. "The fights between Junts and the socialists are useless," he maintained, insisting that both Junts and the PSOE should "think about Catalonia instead of thinking about their fights."

The amnesty and the future of ERC

The republican leader also referred to the application of the Amnesty Law after the endorsement of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). In this regard, he confirmed that he has maintained contacts with Carles Puigdemont and people around him, although he avoided offering details because, as he explained, Junts has asked him for "discretion."

Regarding the actions of the Supreme Court, Junqueras assured that he does not know what the next step will be, although he considered that the high court has increasingly "less room to do strange things" regarding the application of the norm.

In addition, he has shown his support for Gabriel Rufián to once again lead ERC's candidacy in the next general elections and has attacked Aliança Catalana, a party he has accused of defending positions close to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, whose policies, he said, harm the Catalan economy.
