The fire declared last Tuesday afternoon and which affects the Collserola mountain range, in Barcelona, has been stabilized this Wednesday morning, after firefighters managed to consolidate the perimeter of the affected area overnight. Despite the great work of all the services deployed, this fire has burned more than 45 hectares.
The Deputy Mayor for Security, Albert Batlle, said in a press conference that, "the fire is in a control phase with some active foci, but it is perimetered, and work will continue in the coming hours", for its total extinction, so despite the great progress and work, one should not trust completely and attention must be maintained.
Firefighters have reported that the head of the fire has created secondary foci that have burned between five and eight hectares. However, they will continue to supervise Torre Baró and Ciutat Meridiana to guarantee their safety. These are the neighborhoods that on Tuesday afternoon received an order to confine themselves due to the smoke from the fire. In addition, the flames forced the evacuation of 35 people; residents of the first line of homes in Torre Baró, who were preventively evacuated. These are the streets of Lliçà and Castellví, which border the forest area, and all of them were offered to spend the night at the designated meeting points in the neighborhood, however, they ended up evacuating by their own means to the homes of family or friends.
About twenty vehicles will remain working throughout this morning to finish controlling and extinguishing this fire, which since it was declared, has already led to the confinement of some 15,000 people from the neighborhoods of Ciutat Meridiana and Torre Baró, in the Nou Barris district, however, thanks to the favorable evolution of the fire, these people have already been able to return to their homes.
