Miguel Tellado aims to repeat as head of the PP list for Congress for A Coruña in the general elections on November 29. Alberto Núñez Feijóo's general secretary and campaign director has that position reserved in the forecasts of the Galician leaders, with an alternative that depends on the popular leader, his possible incorporation into the Madrid candidacy. The lists are still pending approval and the party places the progress in their preparation in the coming week.
Continuity is also making its way in Ourense, where the PP counts on Ana Vázquez despite the pepper spray incident in Congress, which has begun its judicial journey. Feijóo expressly backed the parliamentarian and popular leaders believe she retains electoral appeal. Both forecasts are part of candidacies that Paula Prado, general secretary of the PPdeG, anticipated this Thursday without confirming names. The party, she said, "does not usually give big surprises".
Tellado, at the head of the campaign
Tellado concentrates the organic direction of the PP and the responsibility of its electoral campaign. His political relationship with Feijóo comes from Galicia, where he was general secretary of the party between 2016 and 2022. He then went through the National Deputy Secretary of Organization and the Congress spokesperson, until assuming the General Secretariat in 2025, which Cuca Gamarra occupied. Running again for A Coruña would maintain his electoral link with Galicia while directing the national strategy.
His prominence translates into constant intervention against the Government. Last week, after the first meeting of the campaign committee, he announced that investigations into the socialist environment would occupy a central place in the pre-campaign. "The sewer is running in the general elections on November 29," he affirmed. That line of confrontation reappears now in the discourse of the Galician PP, while the party prepares its own candidacies.
Prado has presented the election as a choice "between delinquency and decency" and has spoken of the beginning of a "national reconstruction". These are the political terms with which the popular party seeks to mobilize its electorate against Sánchez. Regarding Tellado, she expressed "pride" in having him on the Galician lists, although she avoided confirming his destination. "The PP candidacies will be decided in the competent bodies of the party," she said.
The provincial forecasts gathered by Europa Press also point to Francisco Conde to once again head the list for Lugo and to the continuity of Álvaro Pérez in starting positions for A Coruña. The main vacancy is in Pontevedra, after the withdrawal of Ana Pastor, where Irene Garrido and Pedro Puy are expected to continue, but the choice of the number one remains open. Other veterans, such as Celso Delgado, could be affected by the renewal, with changes in the Senate candidacies as another way to reorganize the teams.
Vázquez and the pepper spray case
The presence of Ana Vázquez in Ourense's plans keeps an uncomfortable issue open for the PP. While its leadership places the adversary's judicial matters at the center of the campaign, the party plans to keep the parliamentarian after an incident that has reached the courts. Her continuity must still be finalized in the definitive candidacy and the proceedings are in an initial phase.
The episode occurred on September 23, during the government control session, when Vázquez showed a pepper spray to the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. Francina Armengol asked her to leave the chamber. Subsequently, a PP advisor admitted to having washed the container that the deputy had given him in a bathroom. Several dependencies of the Chamber had to be sealed and different people were affected.
Judge Pedro Merchante, from court number 6 of the Instruction Section of Madrid, has opened preliminary proceedings after receiving a complaint against Vázquez for an alleged crime of injury. He has asked the three complainants to provide the corresponding medical reports, before evaluating new actions. The opening of these proceedings allows examining what happened and the possible responsibilities, still pending clarification.
Vázquez's actions have also had parliamentary consequences. On Tuesday, the Bureau of the Permanent Deputation reproved her conduct, with the votes of PSOE and Sumar, and considered what happened to be of "undeniable seriousness". The dissolution of the Cortes prevented the proposal for suspension of employment and salary for a week that had been prepared from being brought to the plenary session.
