López Miras launches a record plan of 16 million to help 2,300 young people pay rent in Murcia

The Government of the Region of Murcia, presided over by Fernando López Miras, is preparing a new series of aid to facilitate young people's access to housing. The regional president announced this Tuesday that before the end of the year, the largest call for rental aid for young people in recent years will be launched, with a budget of 16 million euros.

The initiative will allow around 2,300 young people up to 35 years old to receive financial support to face the payment of their housing during the years 2026 and 2027. The objective of these subsidies is to reduce the burden of rent for those seeking to emancipate themselves and facilitate their ability to develop their life project.

The aid can reach 300 euros per month for those who rent a home and 200 euros per month in the case of a room. In the event that a beneficiary receives the maximum amount for two years, the accumulated aid would reach 7,200 euros.

"It will be a historic call for aid," López Miras highlighted during the control session held in the Regional Assembly. The Murcian president defended that his Executive will continue "making decisions thinking about families and, above all, about young people" given the difficulties they face in accessing housing.

To apply for the subsidies, it will be necessary to present the rental contract. The regional administration will subsequently verify compliance with the established requirements and the payment of monthly installments will be accredited by means of the corresponding receipts.

More measures to facilitate access to housing

López Miras has placed this new call within a broader strategy of his Executive to facilitate young people's ability to acquire or access housing. Among the already active measures is the Aval Joven (Youth Guarantee), launched in 2021 and which, according to data provided by the regional Government, has allowed nearly 1,300 young people to access their first home.

This program has accumulated more than 23 million euros in granted guarantees and has just incorporated another six million euros, an expansion with which the Community expects to reach approximately 300 more young people.

The regional president has also defended the Affordable Housing Decree-Law approved by his Executive, a regulation with which he intends to increase supply, mobilize land and streamline administrative procedures linked to housing construction.

López Miras has defended that the problem of access to housing can be addressed by increasing supply, mobilizing land and reducing bureaucracy. In this sense, he summarized his approach as "increasing supply, mobilizing land, reducing bureaucracy, providing security and not prioritizing squatters over owners."

The decree incorporates, among other measures, the urgent processing of procedures related to affordable housing and new incentives aimed at favoring its construction.

During his speech, the president of Murcia contrasted these actions with the state housing policy, which in his opinion "has made housing a scarce and inaccessible commodity" and has turned access to a home into "the primary problem for Spaniards."
