The ultra agitator Vito Quiles has begun this Thursday his new tour in Pamplona with an intervention of barely ten minutes before around a hundred followers, in a Yamaguchi square shielded by the National Police and the Foral Police. He arrived around 6:40 p.m., when the disturbances had already begun, and left later in a van. The protests against his call have left overturned containers, throwing of objects, police charges and at least one person arrested, according to the provisional balance.

Hours earlier, Quiles had used social media to mock the mobilizations against his visit. "I love it when they take the trouble to receive me in places. It's a symptom of good manners," he had written, before announcing that he would attend at six in the afternoon. His appearance occurred about forty minutes later, accompanied by several people and with a microphone in hand.

A armored square for a brief harangue

The call had changed location for security reasons. Quiles intended to hold it in the Plaza del Castillo, where social groups, unions, and youth and pensioner movements had previously announced an anti-fascist concentration. A police report recommended moving his event to Yamaguchi to separate both mobilizations.

The protest in the Plaza del Castillo gathered hundreds of people and took place without incident. In Yamaguchi, young people from GKS and other anti-fascist demonstrators gathered, facing Quiles' followers. The former displayed a banner with the message "Faxistak. Alde hemendik", fascists out of here; among the agitator's supporters, slogans such as "Fascist is he who silences you" and "Freedom of expression" could be read.

Tension increased with clashes between participants of both concentrations. The National Police carried out several charges and used tear gas, while some demonstrators threw stones and bottles at the officers. The incidents spread to the surroundings of Barañáin avenue and Yamaguchi park, with overturned containers and traffic cuts. Part of the altercations occurred next to a funeral home.

Quiles appeared when charges had already occurred and began his harangue proclaiming that "Navarra is more Spanish than ever". His followers chanted insults against Pedro Sánchez and he linked his intervention with the elections of November 29. In his short speech he also associated his adversaries with "those of the shot in the back of the neck", without substantiating that accusation, and presented those around him as "peaceful people".

Van Departure and Attacks on Campers

The stay ended shortly after. Quiles headed to a van and left the square after about ten minutes of intervention. During the 'Malas Lenguas' connection on TVE, it was reported that the vehicle had to stop and change direction following police instructions, because the closure of the area made it difficult to exit along the route it intended to take.

The gas used by riot police also reached inside the square. The program's reporter explained that he had difficulty breathing and his eyes were watering, which complicated the coverage. The police intervention, the movements of the protesters, and traffic cuts continued to mark the afternoon around the event.

In his brief speech, Quiles also attacked those maintaining the housing encampment in Puerta del Sol. According to TVE's envoy, he called them "perroflautas" (dog-flutists) and claimed they were there to do drugs and drink beer. The journalist rejected that description and explained that it did not correspond to what the team had observed during two weeks of covering the mobilization.

Pamplona is the first stop of the 'Combativos II Tour', a tour announced for fourteen cities under the slogan "Mafia or homeland", with calls to vote against the Government on 29N. The return to the Navarrese capital comes almost a year after another failed call by Quiles in the vicinity of the University of Navarra. That event was suspended for security reasons, although the disturbances ended up spreading to the Iturrama neighborhood.
