The 2027 work calendar is now official. The Official State Gazette (BOE) has published the public holidays for next year, key information for those who want to organize their vacations, plan getaways, or take advantage of long weekends without spending too many days off.

The year will have nine common holidays throughout Spain, in addition to the specific holidays of each autonomous community and the two local holidays corresponding to each municipality. Therefore, although some dates will be the same for all workers, the definitive calendar will depend on the place of residence. Among the most notable dates are New Year's Day, Good Friday, All Saints' Day, and Constitution Day. Several of these will fall on a Friday or Monday, allowing for three-day weekends without needing to request vacation days.

However, not all celebrations will allow for more rest. May 1st, Labor Day, will coincide with a Saturday, as will Christmas Day, December 25th. This means that those who work Monday to Friday will not be able to take advantage of these dates to automatically extend the weekend.

What public holidays will there be in Spain in 2027?

The calendar includes several important dates to keep in mind for organizing the coming months. Among the main national holidays are the following:

  •  Friday, January 1: New Year's Day. The year will begin with a three-day weekend.
  • Wednesday, January 6: Epiphany of the Lord, known as Three Kings' Day.
  • Friday, March 26: Good Friday. It will allow for three consecutive days of rest.
  • Saturday, May 1: Labor Day. This year it will not allow for extending the weekend on its own.
  • Tuesday, October 12: National Day of Spain. In most communities, those who do not work on Monday the 11th will be able to enjoy four consecutive days.
  • Monday, November 1: All Saints' Day. It will offer a long weekend.
  • Monday, December 6: Spanish Constitution Day. It will allow for three consecutive days of rest.
  • Wednesday, December 8: Immaculate Conception Day.
  • Saturday, December 25: Christmas. The date will fall on a weekend.

To these dates must be added the regional holidays, which may vary from one region to another. It should also be noted that August 15, the day of the Assumption of the Virgin, will fall on a Sunday, so some communities will move the day off to Monday 16 or replace it with another holiday. For this reason, it is important to consult the specific calendar of each territory before organizing a trip or requesting days off from work.

What will be the best long weekends to organize a getaway?

December will be one of the most interesting months for those who want to take advantage of the holidays. Constitution Day will be celebrated on Monday 6 and the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday 8. In this way, those who can take Tuesday 7 off will be able to enjoy five consecutive days of rest, from Saturday 4 to Wednesday 8 December.

October will also offer an opportunity to extend the weekend. Spain's National Day will fall on Tuesday 12, so, in communities where Monday 11 is not a holiday, it will be enough to have that day off to rest from Saturday 9 to Tuesday 12. In November, All Saints' Day will be celebrated on Monday 1, which will allow those who have the weekend off to enjoy three consecutive days without working. The beginning of the year will also be favorable, as January 1 will fall on a Friday.

For its part, Holy Week will take place at the end of March. Good Friday will be March 26, although the possibility of enjoying four consecutive days will depend on usual days off and regional holidays. In territories where Holy Thursday is also a holiday, the rest period may begin on Thursday 25.

In any case, before booking accommodation or transport, it is advisable to check the labor calendar of the corresponding autonomous community and municipality. Local holidays can change the possibilities of rest and must still be consulted in the official publications of each town hall.
