Under Europe's passive gaze, Israel does not cease its genocide in Gaza. The Government of Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has once again made regrettable statements given the impunity granted to him by the rest of the world. Thus, Itamar Ben Gvir, Minister of National Security and representative of the Israeli far-right, has defended that the Army carry out “selective” killings of between 30 and 40 Palestinians every night in the Gaza Strip, considering that these people “do not deserve to live there.”
The statements, reported by the British newspaper 'Financial Times', come at a time when Netanyahu has reduced the scope of military operations in Gaza under pressure from the Donald Trump Administration to advance his peace proposal. Ben Gvir has openly questioned this strategy and has called for maintaining a more forceful military policy in the enclave.
The minister has also defended the recovery of Jewish settlements in Gaza, dismantled in 2005 during the Israeli withdrawal process. In his opinion, Israel should once again promote the presence of settlers in the Palestinian territory and encourage the departure of its inhabitants. “The more, the better,” he affirmed when referring to the need to “encourage emigration.”
Ben Gvir has gone even further by differentiating between the Palestinian population and those he considers terrorists. According to him, the latter should not have the possibility of leaving Gaza, but rather be eliminated. "And as for the terrorists, there should be no emigration for them. We simply must kill them one by one," said the minister, who is responsible for Israel's police and prison system.
Iran accuses Israel of proposing a “nightly quota” of deaths
The statements have also provoked a response from Iran. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Qaribabadi, has accused Ben Gvir of proposing a policy of systematic killings against the Palestinian population and has demanded that his words be recorded.
"This Zionist criminal simultaneously speaks of the expulsion of Palestinians and the construction of settlements throughout Gaza. These confessions must be recorded and preserved for the day of reckoning and the trial of these criminals," Qaribabadi stated. The Iranian leader summarized the Israeli minister's statements as a "nightly quota for killings in Gaza," referring to the proposal to eliminate dozens of Palestinians every night.
According to Gaza authorities, controlled by Hamas, more than 73,380 Palestinians have died and nearly 174,300 have been injured since the start of the Israeli offensive, triggered after the attacks carried out by Palestinian militias on October 7, 2023.
