The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Wednesday a new economic offensive against Iran, cataloging this possible operation as the one with the greatest impact ever carried out against a country, with the aim of trying to cut off the financing and economic support channels to the Islamic Republic.
"Today I am announcing the most devastating economic operation ever undertaken against any country," Trump assured on his Truth Social network, where he also warned that any country that allows its financial institutions, companies, airports or government entities to provide "any kind of lifeline" to Iran will in turn face economic consequences. The president detailed that this measure contemplates the ways used to avoid sanctions and maintain financial flows to Iran, including oil smuggling, foreign exchange lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and shell companies.

In the same way, Trump demanded that all these operations "stop now" and warned that Washington will be very attentive to the countries and entities that allow them to continue. The president of the United States linked this move to a new phase of US pressure on Tehran, after assuring that the Iranian Armed Forces have been severely weakened after recent clashes and that its economy is on the verge of collapse.
"This will be an economic D-DAY," he assured, asking his allies to support the isolation of Iran and reiterating that his Government will prevent the country from obtaining a nuclear weapon. All this, he said, after having opined that, "perhaps at some point Washington and Tehran can resume negotiations to end the war," although he also indicated that the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz "is very good" and that many oil tankers are transiting it without problem.
