The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has formally requested the intervention of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to reinforce assistance and logistics efforts after the railway accident registered in the province of Toledo, a request with which the autonomous Executive seeks to expand operational capacity on the ground and accelerate the institutional response to the emergency.

Parallel to this request for state support, the regional Government has raised the Territorial Emergency Plan of Castilla-La Mancha (Platecam) to level 2, a decision that allows maximizing coordination between administrations and ordering the deployment of the different intervention services, in a scenario where the priority is the attention to affected passengers and the management of available resources.

Deployment of personnel in the track area

Agents of the Civil Guard, fire brigades from the provincial consortiums of Toledo and Ciudad Real, volunteers from Civil Protection groups, and various resources from the Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (Sescam) are already working in the operation deployed to the scene, in a device that combines security, rescue, logistical support, and healthcare tasks.

The action is currently focused on the installation of an advanced medical post, a provisional health structure that will allow for the triage of affected passengers, offer first emergency medical assistance, and organize, according to the clinical severity of each case, transfers to the corresponding hospital centers.

Health and logistics coordination

The device activated in Toledo therefore prioritizes immediate attention to the people involved in the railway accident, with a work chain in which security forces, fire extinguishing services, emergency volunteers, and health personnel participate, all under a coordination structure reinforced by the activation of Platecam at its level 2.
