Pedro Sánchez requests to appear in Congress amid a full rift between Defense and Interior

The situation in the autonomous city of Ceuta keeps open one of the most complex crises that Pedro Sánchez's cabinet has faced, which continues to show signs of wear. A wear that is no longer limited solely to what happens on the ground, but fully affects political stability within the Government.

Almost a month after the massive entry of more than 70,000 migrant people, Sánchez has requested to appear at his own request in the Lower House. Without a date yet, the initiative is registered in parallel to the debate on whether the CNI warned or not about what ended up happening last July.

Moncloa backs Marlaska and leaves Robles alone

The Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, publicly settled the controversy from the Moncloa Palace stating that "there was no report." In this way, he ruled out that Intelligence had warned about the massive arrival to the autonomous city at the end of July. 

Minutes earlier, before the Defense Committee, Margarita Robles had maintained that the CNI did the work that is "demanded" of it in terms of irregular migration, asserting that "they shared the information."

Two opposing versions of the same event that have unleashed a deep schism. Sources from Moncloa avoid going into details but close ranks with the head of Interior. Meanwhile, several ministers lament that the head of Defense "goes her own way," recalling that it is not the first time this has happened.

The Government hands the narrative to the opposition

The Popular Party has barely had to make an effort in recent weeks to build its opposition strategy. The Ceuta crisis has served Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party a direct argument against Sánchez's policies on a silver platter.

The latest confrontation between Robles and Marlaska provoked an immediate reaction from Génova. 

The popular party demands the convocation of the Official Secrets Commission so that Spanish Intelligence clarifies the Executive's "versions." For Feijóo, the conclusion is blunt: "someone is lying." A situation that the PP calls intolerable, although they admit that they are already "accustomed to the Government's stumbles."
