The PP tightens the noose on the Government over the management of Ceuta: they register 14 initiatives, among which they demand the appearance of Sánchez and explanations from ten ministers

Since the migratory crisis in Ceuta began after the massive entry of people into the autonomous city, the Partido Popular, led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has exerted considerable pressure against the Government of Pedro Sánchez, carrying out its offensive in the Senate, where they hold an absolute majority, and registering 14 initiatives in the Congress of Deputies, which will be debated and voted on this Wednesday in the Permanent Deputation of the Congress, the body responsible for regulating parliamentary activity outside the ordinary session period.

Among their requests are the appearance of the President of the Executive and ten other ministers. In parallel, they have also demanded explanations on other issues such as the response to fires, the extension of the Almaraz nuclear power plant, the Next Generation funds, and the indictment in the Leire case of the Director General of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, and the Deputy Operational Director (DAO) of that body, Manuel Llamas.

The Government took a new step this Tuesday, 26 days after the start of the crisis, to address the migratory situation in Ceuta after the massive entry of people from Morocco at the end of July. After the extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, began the round of appearances in the Lower House, and then, the Council of Ministers took place, where the "situation of interest for national security" was declared in the autonomous city and the creation of a single command was approved, which will be led by the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres.

In this context, the Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, announced Sánchez's willingness to make an appearance, but did not determine the date.

Before the meeting of the Permanent Deputation, the Board of Spokespersons of the Congress is scheduled to meet to finalize the agenda for the first ordinary plenary session of September.

The appearances of the ministers

The ministers of the Government of Spain who have collaborated in managing the massive entry of migrant people into Ceuta through the border with Morocco between July 30 and 31, have scheduled their self-requested appearances for this week in the Congress of Deputies, where they will give explanations about the actions of their ministries in managing the crisis facing the autonomous city.

In this regard, this Tuesday the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has been the first to carry out her intervention in the Lower House on the work of the Armed Forces and on the National Intelligence Center (CNI). This appearance will be followed by those of the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the Minister of Health, Mónica García (on Thursday 27); those of the Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares, the Minister of Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska and the Minister of Migrations, Elma Saiz (on Friday 28) and, finally, those of the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, and the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo (on Monday 31). 

Feijóo demanded the activation of the National Security Law

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has extraordinarily convened this Tuesday the National Security Council to analyze the situation in Ceuta after the massive entry of migrant people into the autonomous city. The meeting will be attended by the main officials responsible for the State's security areas, including the Ministers of Interior, Defense and Foreign Affairs, the director of the CNI, the Chief of Staff of the Defense (JEMAD) and the director of the National Security Department. However, this measure was demanded by the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on July 30, the day the entry occurred. 

Feijóo, demanded through a video he published on his X account, the activation of the National Security Law to face the crisis. That same day, coinciding with the beginning of the massive arrival of migrants to Ceuta, Feijóo asked the Government to activate article 23 of the National Security Law and declare a state of emergency. Among the measures he also demanded were the closure of borders, the mobilization of the Army in the area and the promotion of diplomatic actions with Morocco and the European Union.
