Agents of the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard have been carrying out an operation since early this Thursday morning related to the opening of a secret separate piece of the 'Koldo case' in the Audiencia Nacional, as confirmed to Europa Press by sources close to the case.
The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is also participating in the proceedings, although for the moment it has not been disclosed which individuals are affected or the specific scope of the actions. The intervention comes after the judge of the Audiencia Nacional who is investigating the case, Ismael Moreno, agreed this Wednesday to open a new piece after receiving a report from the UCO whose content, for now, is also unknown.
A case with several lines of investigation
The instructor is investigating several lines of investigation within the framework of the 'Koldo case', including the one that originated the procedure, the alleged irregularities in the purchase of masks during the pandemic. That branch was partially judged by the Supreme Court, which put former minister José Luis Ábalos, his former advisor Koldo García and businessman Víctor de Aldama in the dock, due to the privileged status as a deputy that the former head of Transport had when he was prosecuted.
The high court sentenced the three to prison terms, Ábalos to 24 years, Koldo García to 19 and Víctor de Aldama to four, although it allowed the businessman and commission agent not to enter prison due to his collaboration with justice and on the condition that he does not re-offend.
Other pieces under investigation
In addition to the mask branch, Ismael Moreno is investigating in the same case alleged rigging of public works and cash payments by the PSOE between 2017 and 2024 to reimburse anticipated expenses, a piece that also remains secret.
