Feijóo prepares for a possible early election and accelerates the party's renewal with 21 congresses: "We cannot be complacent"

The president of the Partido Popular (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asked the leadership of his party this Monday not to relax in the face of the cascade of elections that will be held in 2027 and defended that the party must "not be overconfident", "give it their all together" and "fight for every vote" to earn the support of a majority of Spaniards.

During the meeting of the National Executive Committee, Feijóo insisted that the PP cannot take anything for granted, called for "working every day" and stressed that political change "is not waited for", but rather "is sought, worked for and conquered". "I ask you to work every day, fight for every vote, earn the trust of a majority of Spaniards and demonstrate that we deserve it," he affirmed.

In addition, the leader of the PP warned that they will face politicians "capable of anything", so he asked his people not to be overconfident.

Criticism of Pedro Sánchez's Government and warning about fear

In his speech, the opposition leader harshly criticized the Executive of Pedro Sánchez, whom he accused of not having been "a usual Government". "From vans destined for paradors to flats for friends, from jewels to sewers, from saunas to professorships, from businesses with dictatorships to commissions to clans to eliminate a judge who bothers them. If this is not the mafia, what is it?" he asked.

Feijóo also responded to the argument of fear that, in his opinion, the Government could activate given the possibility of a majority between the PP and Vox in the next general elections. "Don't dare to stir up fear," he warned, before adding that "nothing is more frightening than four more years" of Pedro Sánchez. In the same vein, he maintained that the PP will not give anything away and that the Executive already knows the message that, according to him, it will try to use to defend itself: "Beware, the PP is coming."

"Everything will be known and everything will be cleaned up" if he reaches Moncloa

The president of the PP also guaranteed that, if he reaches Moncloa, "everything they have done will be known, everything will be cleaned up and everything will have consequences." "My hand will not tremble, because I am determined to give Spain the change it needs," he maintained, before recalling that, after more than three decades of political career, he is only moved by "serving Spain."

Feijóo also asked for support from his team to govern the country. "To get there, I need you," he said, while calling for internal unity and stressing that in an election "there is always uncertainty" and that the party must be "up to the task." "I don't know if you will be examined first or I will, but it doesn't matter. We have to give it our all together. And I first," he pointed out.

Twenty-one congresses to strengthen teams before the electoral cycle

The National Executive Committee of the PP has also given the green light to a total of 21 congresses, including five regional and sixteen provincial and island ones, with the aim of updating and strengthening territorial teams for the upcoming electoral processes.

At the regional level, the congresses of Galicia, Community of Madrid, Murcia, Cantabria and Canary Islands have been ratified. All of them, except Galicia, face the next regional elections on May 23rd and are currently governed by the PP.

In addition, the popular leadership has approved the provincial congresses of the eight provinces of Andalusia, the four of Catalonia and the three of the Basque Country. In parallel, the party has activated a management committee in Navarra after the resignation of its previous president, Javier García, and deputy Sergio Sayas will take charge of that body.

A month of frantic organic activity

Sources from the PP have explained that this series of conclaves responds to the need to fine-tune the party's structures, especially with a view to next year's municipal elections, which will affect the entire organization in the national territory.

According to the same sources, the 21 congresses will be held between the end of October and the end of November, in a period they have described as "thirty days of frantic organic activity" to arrive "stronger" at the electoral challenges that the party will have to face in the coming months.
