Ángel Víctor Torres backs the Government delegate in Ceuta after his replacement: an "incomparably harsh targeting"

The Minister of Territorial Policy and sole command for the management of the crisis in Ceuta, Ángel Víctor Torres, has defended this Monday the actions of the until now Government delegate in the autonomous city, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, whose replacement comes, he said, after a “designation that from a human point of view is incomparably harsh.”

In an interview on the program Herrera en Cope, collected by Europa Press, the minister has supported the work of Pérez Triano during the crisis triggered by the arrival of more than 72,000 migrants in Ceuta at the end of July, an avalanche on which he has insisted that “in no case did anyone warn.”

An announced departure for family reasons

Ángel Víctor Torres has indicated that it will be Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano himself who will offer the appropriate explanations this Monday in a public appearance, although he has advanced that the Executive's representative in Ceuta had already communicated his decision to leave the position “days and even weeks” ago.

“He had told me days, even weeks ago, that he intended to leave the position due to his family situation. I believe that a designation has been made that from a human point of view is incomparably harsh, with any other issue that he or his family may have experienced,” the minister affirmed in that radio conversation.

Government transparency and case in the Audiencia Nacional

After recalling that Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano has worked “the entire month of August staying at his job,” Ángel Víctor Torres referred to the judicial investigation opened in the Audiencia Nacional, without, he pointed out, any imputation being recorded. In that case, the former chief of staff of the Government delegate, Gonzalo Sanz, and the president of the Autonomous City, Juan Jesús Vivas, will testify this week as witnesses.

“From the Government of Spain, absolute transparency and clarity with everything that happened this summer and previous summers,” the minister maintained, before stressing that the warnings received by the Executive “in no case anticipated that 70, 80 or 90,000 people would arrive, neither to the Government of Spain nor to the Government of Ceuta.”

In this context, Ángel Víctor Torres has stated that the central Executive is now focused on the “solution of a difficult and complex situation.”
