The leader of the Popular Party (PP) and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, asked unions this Tuesday to "reconsider" the general strike called for next week, considering that, if he previously saw it as "incomprehensible," after the Urda accident it has become "a serious error."
In an informative breakfast organized by Europa Press, Alberto Núñez Feijóo clarified that he does not question the constitutional right to strike, but rather the appropriateness of a call scheduled for November 11, and addressed a direct message to the union federations.
"And that's why I want to address the unions directly. Reconsider that strike called against the opposition as confirmed by the campaign director of the Socialist Party. Before it was incomprehensible. 69 deaths later it is a serious error," emphasized the popular leader.
Feijóo also stressed that the unions did not call a strike "in eight years of Government" of Pedro Sánchez and asked them not to promote it now, "three weeks before being called to the polls." "Don't do it or you will link your image to Pedro Sánchez forever," he stressed.
A "clear" and "strong" mandate to get back on track
In the same event, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, demanded a "clear" and "strong" mandate to regain "respect" and "direction" in Spain, and warned that, for him, "governing has never been a joke."
"I ask for a clear mandate to make possible the national reconstruction that the country needs. A strong mandate to do everything we have to do and to do it as soon as possible. A mandate to get back on track, face problems and get Spain moving," Feijóo said during his speech.
The opposition leader admitted that he aspires to have parliamentary support as solid as that enjoyed by Felipe González, José María Aznar or Mariano Rajoy, with the aim of not being trapped in "permanent compromise" and being able to reach agreements and make decisions from the very beginning.
