The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, pointed out this Wednesday that yesterday's appearance by the now former Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, before the Permanent Deputation of Congress, was "a charade" and affirmed that he is convinced that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, already knew that he was going to resign.
In an interview on Antena 3, Feijóo maintained that yesterday's event was a "charade" that concluded in "prime time, at five or seven past nine to enter the news programs" and say that he was leaving, a formula that, in his opinion, constitutes "an undignified way to leave". Asked if he did not believe that Puente, as he himself assured, communicated his decision to Sánchez a few minutes before announcing it, Feijóo replied: "Evidently not".
The PP links the decision to unfavorable polls
Feijóo said that during the last few days the president of the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), José Félix Tezanos, has done "the fieldwork" and that, "once the surveys were finished", it was clear that the Government was going to make the decision for Puente to resign because the polls "showed them falling below one hundred seats".
The PP candidate for president also affirmed that Pedro Sánchez, "for political dignity", should also leave. "This legislature should not have started and for political dignity this legislature, if it had started, should have ended a long time ago," he added.
The resignation of Óscar Puente
The until this Tuesday Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, announced his resignation and his renunciation also of being part of the PSOE lists for the elections on next November 29, because a Minister of Transport "cannot continue with two accidents of this severity in less than a year".
Puente reported his resignation at the end of an appearance at his own request before the Permanent Deputation of Congress, in which he assured that he made this decision as soon as he became aware of the Urda (Toledo) accident, which occurred last Wednesday and has left, at least, 69 fatalities.
