Feijóo demands the convocation of the Official Secrets Commission after the clash of versions between Robles and Marlaska regarding the CNI

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, this Wednesday increased pressure on the Government due to the contradictory versions offered yesterday by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, and the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, regarding the actions of the National Intelligence Center (CNI) during the migratory crisis in Ceuta. Feijóo has demanded the immediate convening of the Official Secrets Commission, whose meeting his party already requested on August 5, considering that the explanations offered so far do not clarify what happened before and during the massive entry of people into the autonomous city.

“This mess of versions about what happened in Ceuta makes the immediate convening of the Official Secrets Commission essential,” Feijóo wrote on his X account. The president of the PP insisted that his party’s request “can no longer be delayed” and criticized the Executive’s management: “It is as clear that someone is lying as it is that none of them have fulfilled their responsibility.” In this regard, he defended that both the people of Ceuta and all Spaniards “deserve a Government that respects and defends the dignity of the nation.”

The controversy arose after Robles highlighted during her appearance the work carried out in Ceuta by the Armed Forces, the State Security Forces, and the CNI. The Minister of Defense assured that the intelligence services performed the work that is “demanded” of them in the autonomous city and that the information was shared and analyzed with the rest of the organizations involved in the response to the crisis.

However, Marlaska later offered a different version. During the press conference after the Council of Ministers, the head of Interior stated that there was no CNI report that “foresaw” the migratory crisis in Ceuta. The minister maintained that, had there been a document of those characteristics, the necessary measures to face the situation would have been adopted “by common sense.” “Something extraordinary, exceptional, and evidently difficult to imagine,” Marlaska said when referring to the possibility that such prior information had existed.

Feijóo also attacks the single command

The leader of the PP has also taken advantage of the creation of the single command announced by the Government to coordinate the response to the situation in Ceuta to question the Executive's management. “They promise a single command in Ceuta and unleash an internal war in the Government,” he wrote on X.

Feijóo has linked this decision to the lack of assumption of responsibilities after the migratory crisis and has accused the Executive of trying to evade them. “It is clear that no one wants to answer for what they have done. Or rather, for what they have not done,” he said, before concluding his message with a question: “Every man for himself?”

The criticism from the president of the PP comes after the Government announced new measures to address the Ceuta crisis, 26 days after the massive entry of people from Morocco at the end of July. After the extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by Pedro Sánchez, the Executive declared the “situation of interest for national security” in the autonomous city and approved the creation of a single command, which will be led by the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres.

The minister spokesperson, Elma Saiz, also announced Pedro Sánchez's willingness to appear to give explanations about the management of the crisis, although she did not specify when this intervention would take place. In parallel, the PP keeps its parliamentary offensive open and has registered 14 initiatives in Congress, among them the request for the appearance of the President of the Government and ten other ministers.

Before the meeting of the Permanent Deputation, the Board of Spokespersons of the Congress is expected to meet to specify the issues that will be part of the first ordinary Plenary Session of September, a scenario in which the Ceuta crisis will predictably once again focus the confrontation between the Government and the main opposition party.
