The leader of the Popular Party (PP) and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, will present this Monday in Madrid his 'Contract with Spain', a manifesto in which he will gather the values and principles that, according to the party, will guide his project if he reaches the Palace of La Moncloa after the general elections on November 29.
The event is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Espacio Larra and, according to PP sources, it will not have the usual format of a rally, nor a staging marked by party symbols. “It is not a campaign rally or an acclamation but an act in which the candidate's commitment to a way of understanding politics is intended to be solemnized. The party's scenography will not be preponderant,” these same sources explained.
In the act, furthermore, the PP specifies that it does not want to give prominence to the logos, the anthem, or the flags of the PP, so that the scenography remains in the background.
A 'letter of values' for those who still doubt their vote
In Génova they consider that this initiative functions as a “letter of values” from the candidate, useful for those voters who still “doubt” before going to the polls. The intention, according to the PP, is to offer more information about what Feijóo defends and with what principles he intends to govern if he obtains the trust of the voters.
“Before asking for the vote in the campaign, we are going to explain what we want it for and why we want it,” sources from the party added, insisting that the act seeks to focus on the figure of the candidate and not on the aesthetics of the organization. “We are not looking for the spotlight to be on the stands but on the lectern, on the person who is going to show their values,” admitted sources from his team.
The PP defines the text as the “founding act of the Spain to come” and as the “kilometer zero of a political project.” In this document, Feijóo will detail how he understands the Government's relationship with Spaniards, the relationship of Spaniards with the Executive itself, international relations, treatment of the administered, and the way public money should be prioritized, among other issues.
A 'presidentialist' discourse and the memory of the Galicia contract
Feijóo has been appealing for “change” for months to open a new political stage and has promised a “national reconstruction” after eight years of Pedro Sánchez's government. Ten days ago, before the Executive Board of his party, he maintained that “These are not just any elections. The dilemma of November 29 is more than choosing between two parties. It is about choosing between a project of personal ambition or a project for the country.”
Sources from the PP emphasize that the speech will have a “presidentialist” tone, with Feijóo as the sole focus of the event and with an intervention centered on explaining the principles he intends to convey to the campaign. The party also recalls that the popular leader already signed a 'Contract with Galicia' before the 2009 regional elections, in an act held in the Plaza del Obradoiro.
“If he had breached it, he would not have been re-elected again,” sources from his team pointed out, recalling that Feijóo later achieved three more absolute majorities in 2012, 2016, and 2020. Now, according to the party, the objective is to transfer that same format to the whole of Spain, with a message in which the candidate's principles and values occupy the center of the electoral narrative.
