The president of the Popular Party (PP) and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has chosen Ceuta to make his first trip after the announcement of the call for general elections for next November 29, according to sources from the party. The popular leader will travel to the autonomous city this Wednesday and, the following day, will gather the National Executive Board of the party.
This is Alberto Núñez Feijóo's fifth trip to Ceuta and will coincide with the moment when two months have passed since the massive entry of around 80,000 irregular migrants. The last time he visited the autonomous city was on September 21, accompanied by the president of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber.
Feijóo seeks to stage his support for Ceuta after the migratory crisis
In this new visit, Alberto Núñez Feijóo will take the opportunity to reiterate his "resounding commitment to the Spanishness" of Ceuta, and also of Melilla, after "the invasion suffered on July 30 and 31", sources from the PP have indicated. In addition, the popular president will emphasize his support for the people of Ceuta "in the face of the difficult situation they suffer daily more than two months after this attack" on the "territorial integrity" of Spain.
Before that trip, this Tuesday, Feijóo will attend the Senate for the celebration of the act of awarding the gold medal to the presidents of the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, Juan Jesús Vivas Lara and Juan José Imbroda, as confirmed by the party. Likewise, the president of the PP will gather the National Executive Board, the party's highest body between congresses, on Thursday at the party's headquarters to "begin to advance in the preparation of the appointment with the polls." The last meeting of this body was held just a week ago, on September 28, when Feijóo asked his own "not to be overconfident", "to give it their all together" and "to fight for every vote" in the face of the cascade of elections that will be held in 2027.
"We cannot be overconfident. I ask you to work every day, fight for every vote, earn the trust of a majority of Spaniards and demonstrate that we deserve it," Alberto Núñez Feijóo then affirmed at the PP's National Executive Board, where a score of regional and provincial congresses were given the green light to strengthen teams that could now be altered with the call for general elections.
