The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, has defended the management carried out by the former Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, after the train accident in Urda (Toledo), and has set as a government priority the need to "restore confidence in high-speed rail".
Bolaños made these statements moments before the inauguration of the meeting of directors of the Institutes of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (IMLCF) and the National Institutes of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences (INTCF), held in León.
Asked about the communication of Óscar Puente's resignation and how it occurred, the minister avoided commenting on the exchanges between the President of the Government and the then head of Transport, stating that "I have little to say because, logically, I do not know the communications that occur between the President of the Government and the Minister of Transport at that time".
In any case, Félix Bolaños described Óscar Puente's resignation as an "act of dignity, responsibility, closeness, and empathy and respect for the victims", and stressed that this decision shows that not all politicians act the same in similar circumstances.
"If you want, we can compare it with other cases of other tragedies and what the actions of the political leaders have been. I think it is so obvious that I don't need to explain it," said the minister, who defended that Óscar Puente, first, reported "in real time all the details about the accident", then coordinated with technicians measures to "reinforce safety measures and restore confidence in high-speed rail" and, finally, "assumed responsibility with his own resignation".
The new information about Adamuz
Questioned about the latest information on the Adamuz accident, where judicial experts have located three deformations in the track in the section of the accident, similar to the one that caused the break, Félix Bolaños insisted that all documentation has been provided to the investigating judge.
The minister stressed that now is the time for justice, the judicial police and the technicians, and added that the Government wants all the circumstances of what happened to be clarified.
"It is the moment for justice, for the judicial police and for the technicians and, therefore, we in the Government are interested in clarifying all the circumstances, because the fundamental mission we have at this moment is to restore confidence in Spanish high-speed rail and we have to do it by analyzing what has happened and also by taking the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again", he pointed out.
