Interior has detected messages on a website linked to Islamic State (Daesh) jihadist terrorism calling for attacks against police and protesters in the context of the mass protests taking place in several European countries, including Spain.
The informative alert from the Cybersecurity Coordination Office (OCC), under the Ministry of Interior, indicates that the message proposes taking advantage of concentrations and street clashes to perpetrate attacks with explosives, knives, or vehicle ramming.
Interior reminds that it maintains a permanent work of monitoring social networks in the fight against jihadism, with the participation of the OCC itself, the Intelligence Center against Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO), and the State Security Forces and Corps.
As a result of this work and continuous investigation, National Police and Civil Guard have carried out a total of 47 operations in 23 provinces in 2026, which have culminated in 86 arrests.
The terrorist alert remains at reinforced level 4 since October 2023
Spain has maintained activated level 4 of antiterrorist alert, out of five existing, since October 17, 2023. The decision was adopted after the escalation of tension in the Middle East due to the Hamas jihadist attacks and Israel's subsequent military response. This level, considered of high risk, implies a reinforcement of surveillance and prevention measures against possible jihadist attacks, with special attention to the protection of public spaces, critical infrastructures, and mass events. Although it is not the maximum level of alert, security forces maintain the monitoring device active against possible terrorist threats.
The monitoring device remains active while authorities continue to monitor messages disseminated on the internet and detect possible calls to act within the framework of the protests.
