The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, expressed his conviction this Tuesday that the visit of Felipe VI and doña Letizia to Ceuta will be “very fruitful” for the “self-esteem” of the people of Ceuta, in statements made in Brussels, where he maintains an official agenda as vice-president of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).
Moreno expressed his satisfaction with the Kings' trip to the autonomous city, which he described as “very opportune at this very difficult time” for the people of Ceuta, “who have been in an abnormal situation for more than 70 days, suffering greatly after the invasion they experienced at the end of July.”
“A symbol of the unity and territorial integrity of Spain”
For the Andalusian president, the King's presence in Ceuta “not only comforts them, but is also a way of bringing the symbol of the unity and territorial integrity of Spain closer to a Spanish city like Ceuta.” In the same vein, Juanma Moreno insisted that the visit seems “positive and opportune” to him and that, furthermore, “it will be fruitful for the spirit and self-esteem of the people of Ceuta.”
The Andalusian leader had already stressed on Monday, during his speech at the opening of the European Week of Regions and Cities, also in Brussels, that Ceuta is “the southern external border of the European Union” and that it has experienced “an invasion,” which is why he defended that its neighbors need to feel that “Europe is by their side, because protecting Ceuta is also protecting Europe.”
The strength of Europe, from cities and regions
In that speech, Juanma Moreno emphasized that “the strength of Europe is not built only in Brussels,” but that “it is built every day in cities, in towns, in regions,” and asserted that “Europe will never be strong externally if it is not strong internally first.”
