Mónica García defends being able to collaborate and have a "good relationship" with Morocco while criticizing its actions in the migratory crisis in Ceuta

Mónica García, Minister of Health, has spoken out regarding relations with Morocco. She has defended that the Spanish Government can collaborate and have "a good relationship" with Morocco but must also be critical of its actions in the migratory crisis that has hit Ceuta, which marks one week this Thursday. "Human rights first," she stressed.

In an interview on RNE, the leader of Más Madrid, highlighted that one can have a "good relationship" with the African country and that is compatible "with being critical of the actions that have occurred in Ceuta," because, as she recalled, "it has taken the lives of dozens of people." We always have to demand and prioritize human rights. One cannot make instrumental use of people who are desperate and who have been used," the minister stated.

García, asked about Morocco's responsibilities in this migratory crisis, pointed out that, "everyone plays their part and demands accountability and criticizes what needs to be criticized." In her opinion, the neighboring country's actions in Ceuta are "absolutely criticizable but it does not mean that diplomatic relations must be broken." She also highlighted the "praiseworthy" reaction of the Spanish Government in the migratory crisis "from a humanitarian point of view," where people have been put "first" with "absolute exquisite humanity."

The Minister of Health also indicated that if the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has stated that there was no information from the Spanish intelligence services about the magnitude of the Ceuta crisis, she also understands "that there was no information, clearly." However, the leader of Más Madrid has demanded that explanations be given and "what happened" in Ceuta be explained. "These are not my competencies and everyone will have to answer for their own competencies," she concluded.
