Pride week has been marked by new clashes between PSOE and PP over the rights of transsexual people. The trigger has been the statements by Jaime de los Santos, popular deputy and undersecretary of Education and Equality, who advanced in an interview granted to 'El País' some of the modifications that his party would promote regarding the current Trans Law.

De los Santos, who just a few days ago claimed to feel "proud to be from the PP and a faggot", has assured in the interview with the media that the popular party considers gender self-determination to be "a fiction". In addition, he has announced that the party would opt to recover the need to accredit gender dysphoria through a psychosocial report to be able to carry out the registered sex change.

The words of the popular leader have generated immediate reactions in the political sphere and in the middle of a week of vindication of LGTBI rights. From the Government, one of the first to respond has been the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, who has used his account on the social network X to launch a brief but forceful message: "Whitewashing, which is a gerund."

The statements come at a particularly symbolic moment, coinciding with the Pride events and celebrations taking place these days in different parts of Spain.
