The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will offer this Saturday, October 10, a rally in Dos Hermanas (Seville), an event that will coincide with the first weekend of the pre-campaign for the general elections that, as announced this past Monday, will be held on November 29. In these elections, the socialist leader will once again run as head of the PSOE's ticket.

The choice of Dos Hermanas is not casual, as it is a municipality considered an electoral stronghold of the socialists in Andalusia, where the party retains an absolute majority in the City Council. Also present at the event will be the Secretary General of the PSOE-A and Deputy Secretary General of the federal PSOE, María Jesús Montero, who headed the socialist candidacy for Congress for Seville in the previous general elections of 2023.

Dos Hermanas, a recurring setting for Sánchez

It will also be a return to a political setting that Pedro Sánchez has already used on other occasions to launch key stages of his career. In Dos Hermanas, the socialist leader announced in January 2017 that he would run in the primaries to regain the General Secretariat of the PSOE, a position from which he had resigned on October 1, 2016, after a turbulent Federal Committee marked by his rejection of the socialist parliamentary group abstaining to facilitate the investiture of Mariano Rajoy (PP) as President of the Government.

The municipality, with almost 130,000 inhabitants, has been governed with an absolute majority by the PSOE between 1983 and 2022 uninterruptedly under the direction of Francisco Toscano, and since that last year by Francisco Rodríguez, after the former's resignation from the Nazarene mayoralty.

An event on the eve of another municipal election

This Saturday's rally will also come just over six months before the municipal elections scheduled for May 23, 2027. Francisco Rodríguez will once again run in these elections, with the aspiration of revalidating the absolute majority achieved in 2023, when the PSOE obtained 16 councilors, the same as in 2019 and two more than necessary to achieve an absolute majority in the consistory.

The event in Dos Hermanas will also mark the return of Pedro Sánchez to Andalusia for a pre-election act after he shared four rallies with María Jesús Montero in the campaign for the Andalusian elections held on May 17, in which the PSOE-A repeated as the second most voted force, although it registered the worst result in its history in terms of seats in the Andalusian Parliament, with 28 deputies, two less than in 2022. Those four rallies were held in Cártama (Málaga), La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), Pulianas (Granada) and Seville capital, where both closed the campaign on May 15.

Previously, already in this year 2026, Sánchez accompanied Montero in two acts of the pre-campaign for the Andalusian elections that were held on two consecutive Sundays, April 19 and 26, in Gibraleón (Huelva) and in Córdoba, respectively.
