Sumar demands accountability for the Ceuta report and Izquierda Unida points directly to Marlaska: "He cannot continue one more day"

The police report on the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta has opened a new rift within the Government. Sumar demands clarification on who knew its conclusions and calls for political accountability, while Izquierda Unida (IU) targets the Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo, and the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.

The document was prepared by the National Immigration and Borders Center (CENIF) and sent to National Court judge María Tardón. Its conclusions rule out that the arrival of thousands of people on July 30 and 31 was spontaneous and point to "prior planning," strategic direction, and the "active guiding" of the crowd towards the crossing points by members of the Moroccan security forces.

Francisco Pardo has informed Marlaska that the report does not formally attribute the planning or execution of what happened to Morocco. The Interior Ministry also maintains that the warning issued on July 29 was a usual risk alert that did not anticipate an entry of that magnitude. The explanation leaves pending clarification on how these statements fit with the express references to the actions of Moroccan agents included in the document.

The judge had ordered investigators not to inform their superiors about the content of the proceedings. The scope of that instruction and the prior circulation of police alerts have now become two of the main questions. Pedro Sánchez will have to face the controversy this Thursday during his appearance in Congress, where the Executive's minority partners will demand data and explanations.

Izquierda Unida proposes dismissals

The federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, has identified two possible responsible parties depending on the information handled at each level of the Ministry. If the Police concealed the document, he demands the immediate resignation of Francisco Pardo. If Marlaska knew the conclusions and also did not communicate them, he believes he should leave the Interior Ministry. "If Marlaska knew about it, he cannot continue one more day as minister," he warned.

Deputy Enrique Santiago has also asked to know if the report was expressly commissioned by the Audiencia Nacional or if it contained police documents prior to the massive entry. The spokesperson for Movimiento Sumar, Verónica Martínez, has demanded "clarity and transparency" and has admitted that it is increasingly difficult to maintain that Morocco remained oblivious to what happened. Ernest Urtasun has asked for prudence until checks are completed, while Mónica García considers it "imperative" to demand explanations from Rabat if the participation of its security forces is confirmed.

Podemos calls for a break

Podemos has taken the pressure several steps further. Its co-spokesperson, Pablo Fernández, has demanded the immediate dismissal or resignation of Marlaska for his "management disaster" and has called for breaking relations with Morocco until what happened is fully clarified. "Marlaska today cannot remain one minute longer at the head of the Ministry of Interior," he stated.

The purple party describes the Moroccan regime as a "dictatorship," accuses the Government of inexplicably protecting Rabat, and defines the massive entry as a "hostile action" in which human beings were used to pressure Spain. It also demands immediate attention to the humanitarian emergency that continues in Ceuta. Sánchez will arrive this Thursday at Congress with Sumar asking for accountability and Podemos already demanding the departure of his Minister of Interior.
