Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government, and Javier Milei, President of Argentina, held a brief and distant greeting this Thursday at the beginning of the Ibero-American Summit in Madrid, in the first encounter between the two during the Argentine leader's visit to Spain.
During the inauguration ceremony, in which all participants of the summit greeted King Felipe VI and the President of the Government, as well as the head of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), Andrés Allamand, Javier Milei greeted the Spanish monarch closely and exchanged a few words.
In the case of Pedro Sánchez, the greeting was short, less warm, and without an exchange of words.
Milei's agenda in Madrid and contacts with the Royal Household
Javier Milei arrived in Madrid this Wednesday, although he was absent from the inaugural ceremony of the XXX Ibero-American Summit in Madrid, presided over by Felipe VI at the Teatro Real in Madrid. All this after Argentine diplomacy requested, through the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a meeting with the King last Friday.
King Felipe VI did hold bilateral meetings with other leaders attending the summit, such as those from Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras.
A relationship marked by clashes
The relationship between Javier Milei and Pedro Sánchez is marked by clashes and attacks after the Argentine leader, on a new trip to Spain in October, once again heavily criticized, as on previous occasions, the President of the Government, whom he called a "dictator", "corrupt", and "thief".
