The Government of Spain has decided to close its airspace to flights of aircraft involved in the war against Iran, within the framework of the military operation promoted by the United States and Israel. The measure implies that no aircraft linked directly or indirectly to this offensive will be able to fly over Spanish territory.

The restriction is not limited to flights taking off from Spain, but also affects military aircraft from bases located in other allied countries, such as United Kingdom or France, if they participate in the operation. In addition, the veto extends to the use of strategic facilities such as the Rota bases (Cádiz) and Morón (Seville).

The measure had already been anticipated in recent days by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who assured that “all flight plans” related to the military operation had been rejected, including those of refueling planes. The Executive has insisted that exceptions would only be considered in cases of emergency.

The Spanish veto also has logistical consequences for the allied military operations, which have been forced to reorganize routes and transfer part of their deployments to other European countries.
