The general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado, challenged this Wednesday the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, to "distance herself" from the version offered by the Government about the incursion of Moroccan military vessels into Ceuta waters, in the midst of the massive arrival of immigrants, considering that it was not a "one-off event."
A day earlier, the Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, stated that the entry of several Moroccan Navy vessels into Ceuta waters at the end of July was a "one-off event," an explanation she used to justify why the Executive did not report the episode at that time. Saiz repeated that idea at the press conference after the Council of Ministers, when she was asked three times why this matter was not known until Monday, the day it was revealed by 'El País', and why the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, did not mention it in his appearance before the Congress of Deputies on September 3 about the crisis in Ceuta.
The Popular Party, however, has rejected that interpretation. Tellado has maintained that "what we are learning about the invasion of Ceuta is by no means a one-off event, as the Government says," and has demanded a clear position from Robles on what happened. "Margarita Robles has one last chance to distance herself, but she will not because to be a minister of Sánchez you have to be just like Sánchez," he declared in a message published on X.
Feijóo demands firmness with Morocco
This Tuesday, the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, had already assured that, if Morocco did not abort that operation, the "logical" thing would have been to make it clear that Spain was going to deploy the Army on the border. The president of the Popular Party also accused Pedro Sánchez of "lying" about this matter.
Feijóo defended that with Morocco it is necessary to maintain a relationship of "loyalty" and "good neighborliness," but also of "firmness," because territorial integrity "is not negotiated." "And Morocco must know this, and any country must know this," emphasized the opposition leader.
