The Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) has refused to participate in the negotiation proposed by the Ministry of Labor on the democratization of companies. The employers' association has communicated that it will not sit down to debate this initiative, considering that it represents an intrusion into the internal management of companies.
From the business organization they maintain that the proposal promoted by the department led by Yolanda Díaz represents “a new exercise in interventionism”. With this argument, the CEOE rules out addressing a debate that the Government intends to open within the framework of the social dialogue.
The employers' refusal comes even before a negotiating table is formally opened, which limits the possibility of discussing measures that seek to broaden the participation of workers in certain business decisions.
The Ministry of Labor proposes to analyze formulas inspired by models existing in other European countries, where employees have a greater presence in decision-making bodies or consultation mechanisms within companies.
Faced with this proposal, the CEOE insists that the management and internal organization of companies must remain exclusively in the hands of the owners and the management bodies, and warns that changes in that area could affect legal certainty.
The approach of the Ministry of Labor is part of an initiative that aims to address with social agents within the framework of social dialogue. The government's intention is to open a debate on possible changes in corporate governance and in the mechanisms for worker participation within companies.
