This Wednesday, the summary of the 'Leire Díez case' was released, placing former socialist militant Leire Díez and former PSOE Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán, at the center of an alleged operation aimed at obtaining sensitive information and acting on judicial investigations affecting the party, the Government, and the inner circle of President Pedro Sánchez. The investigation by the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard points to the existence of a network of contacts and intermediaries who would have tried to gather compromising data on investigators, prosecutors, and other people linked to various cases affecting the PSOE.

Likewise, the UCO analyzes a message from Díez in which she uses the term "one." According to the investigation, the former militant uses this expression to refer to the President of the Government when she asks one of the lawyers involved in the alleged maneuvers to obstruct judicial cases related to the PSOE to focus on one of the lines of action of the plot, linked to cases of VAT fraud in hydrocarbons.

In its report, the Civil Guard also interprets the context of the message and Santos Cerdán's position at that time as PSOE Organization Secretary to conclude that the mention of "one" could only allude to the President of the Government and leader of the party.

In this context, La Moncloa has come out in defense of Pedro Sánchez, stating that he was completely unaware of the former militant's activities, reiterated their collaboration with justice, and assert that they see no evidence, only third-party conversations.

The legislature continues until 2027

In parallel, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, confirmed this Wednesday that the Executive will immediately launch the process to design and approve the General State Budgets corresponding to 2027. With this announcement, the head of the Executive clears up the unknowns about the Government's willingness to present new accounts for the next fiscal year.

Sánchez explained that the ministerial order initiating the budget preparation will be published in the coming days through the Official State Gazette (BOE). Likewise, the Government plans to review its economic forecasts this month to adapt them to the new scenario and subsequently face negotiations with parliamentary groups.

The president has announced that the future budget project will have a strong social orientation. As he pointed out, the accounts will be focused on strengthening public services and consolidating policies aimed at protecting and expanding the Welfare State.

Among the Executive's priorities will be housing, an area that Sánchez has placed at the center of government action. The president has defended the need to increase public investment in this matter and has assured that unprecedented resources will be allocated to facilitate access to housing, one of the problems that currently most concerns citizens.

In economic matters, the Government intends to maintain the budgetary stability strategy applied in recent years. In this regard, Sánchez has reiterated his commitment to the progressive reduction of the deficit and to the decrease in the weight of public debt, with the aim of placing it below 100% of GDP.

The Executive hopes to finalize the content of the new accounts in the coming weeks before opening a round of contacts with the different political parties to try to gather the necessary support for their approval in Parliament.
