The Executive of Pedro Sánchez has taken a new step to reinforce the financing of the dependency system by initiating the processing of a transfer of 970 million euros destined for the autonomous communities. The amount includes the resources corresponding to Euskadi and Navarra and, according to the Ministry of Social Rights, represents "the highest amount in history" of the so-called agreed level of protection for the second consecutive year.
The proposal, which must receive the approval of the Council of Ministers, initially contemplates an allocation of 904 million euros for all autonomous communities. With the incorporation of resources from Euskadi and Navarra, the figure will rise to 970 million, intended to complement the financing of care services for people in a situation of dependency.
The Ministry recalls that the agreed level of financing was eliminated in 2012 and was not recovered until 2021, when the State allocated 306.9 million euros. Since then, they assure, investment has been growing until reaching the allocation planned for this year. The department maintains that this increase will allow that, in 2027, the State's contribution to the system reaches 7,239.4 million euros, a figure with which it hopes to assume 50% of the financing of dependency. In addition, it highlights that this investment will mean doubling state financing compared to 2025 and multiplying it by five compared to that recorded a decade ago.
The Ministry of Social Rights assures that these resources will allow the autonomous communities to have "the largest financing in history" to continue reducing and streamlining waiting lists, improving the working conditions of professionals in the sector and reinforcing services such as telecare, home care or the incorporation of new technologies into the care system. The transfer is part of the Executive's strategy to continue increasing the financing of the dependency system, one of the main social policies promoted by the Ministry in recent years.
