The ministers of the Government of Spain who have collaborated in managing the massive entry of migrant people into Ceuta from Morocco between July 30 and 31, already have their appearances scheduled at their own request in the Congress of Deputies.

In this regard, the Minister of Health, Mónica García, will intervene in the Lower House on Thursday, August 27. On the contrary, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, and the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego, will appear next Friday, August 28.

The other appointments that were scheduled were that of the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who will be the first to carry out her intervention in Congress on Tuesday 25; on the 27th, the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, will also do so; and, on Friday, August 28, the Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares and the Minister of Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska.

The PP demands explanations from Mónica García

The parliamentary offensive of the popular party also includes several requests for appearance. The party will request that the Minister of Health, Mónica García, explain in Congress the health situation in Ceuta, what actions her department has launched and why, according to the PP, she did not travel to the city during the first sixteen days of the crisis.

The popular leader has also lashed out at the minister for her statements about the health situation in the city. Gamarra considers it especially serious that García has denied the existence of a collapse and accuses the head of Health of having disqualified the people of Ceuta.

Requests for appearance by Saiz and Rego

In addition to the Minister of Health, the Popular Party has requested that the Permanent Deputation urgently convene the appearance of the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz. The popular party wants her to explain the migratory policies developed by the Executive and the impact that her decisions, including extraordinary regularization, have had on the management of irregular immigration.

The third request is addressed to the Minister of Youth and Children, Sira Rego. The PP demands that she report on the consequences of the migratory emergency on the minors who remain in Ceuta and on the actions adopted by her department to guarantee compliance with the law in relation to these minors, with special attention to girls.

The non-legislative proposal announced by Gamarra will be moved for debate in the Mixed Commission on National Security and in the Interior Commission. The initiative is part of the PP's strategy to demand a response from the Government that, according to the popular party, must go beyond the management of the migratory emergency and focus on the recovery of security and normality in the city.

Albares joins Marlaska and stands up the PP

The Popular Party has reiterated that it is "studying measures" after another minister did not attend their summons in the Senate – a chamber where they hold a majority – to give explanations about the actions of the different ministries in the migratory crisis that Ceuta is experiencing. In this regard, this Monday, the empty chair was that of José Manuel Albares in the Foreign Affairs Committee convened by the party of Alberto Núéz Feijóo

After the no-show, the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Pilar Rojo Noguera, stated: “The Senate has been ignored by the Government.” She also insisted that “ministers are obliged to appear before the Chamber” because, according to the law, “there is no Chamber prevalent over another, ministers cannot choose the Chamber in which they must appear nor refuse to appear in the Senate.”
