The Minister of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduy, has been pointed out on several occasions both by the ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufián, and by members of Sumar, as one of the best profiles to lead the new left-wing coalition. However, in statements he made to the media, the Consumer Affairs minister has rejected this offer.
In this regard, he has stated that he is going to support in everything that is in his hand so that the left “is up to the task” in the next elections but that he believes it is not “the role” that he should assume -that of being the leader of the new left.
In his day, after being the one who promoted the idea that the left has to unite again and create a coalition, Rufián stated that he would look favorably upon the minister assuming a leading role in an eventual unitary candidacy of the left, highlighting his leadership capacity and political projection. However, he also clarified that any decision must respect the timings and internal processes of the different formations, in a context marked by negotiations and the reconfiguration of the progressive space.
The initiative of Rufián
In the conversation with the Más Madrid parliamentarian, Emilio Delgado, under the motto "Dispute the present to win the future", the Catalan expressed: "What sense does it make for 14 lefts, defending the same thing, to compete among themselves to divide the votes of the left".
"I don't ask anyone to give up their acronyms, I ask for order, efficiency, and method, I want to beat Vox province by province, seat by seat", he explained at the start of his speech. "If we don't agree, we're going to hell", he warned.
