The PP redoubles its offensive against Minister Marlaska over the migratory crisis in Ceuta and demands his dismissal

The Partido Popular will once again submit to a vote in the Plenary Session of Congress this Wednesday the reprobation of the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, for his management of the massive entry of immigrants into Ceuta during last July.

The initiative, incorporated into the motion resulting from the interpellation addressed to the minister last week, attributes to Marlaska the “desprotection” of Spanish borders, the “abandonment” of the autonomous city, and several contradictions regarding the warnings and alerts prior to the crisis. The text also urges the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to dismiss the head of the Interior.

Marlaska would thus become the most reproved minister of the legislature in both Congress and the Senate. The vote would not have direct legal effects, but it would allow measuring parliamentary support for the PP's strategy against the Executive in the management of the Ceuta crisis.

More police, civil guards, and military

The proposal calls for reinforcing “immediately and permanently” the presence of the National Police and the Civil Guard in Ceuta. The PP also proposes maintaining the deployment of the Armed Forces as long as the emergency situation persists.

The popular party asks that these bodies have more personnel, material resources, accommodation, and allowances, as well as adequate working conditions to protect the border, guarantee public order, and restore normality in the city.

The plan also includes special security devices in streets, public spaces, and educational centers, as well as in their accesses and in the usual routes for schoolchildren, women, and minors.

The PP demands accelerating returns

The motion urges the Government to adopt all necessary measures to effect the return or repatriation of people who entered Ceuta irregularly. To this end, Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party demands the use of available national, European, and bilateral legal instruments.

The initiative also calls for urgently increasing resources allocated to identifying migrants and processing files for return, repatriation, or asylum applications.

In the case of unaccompanied foreign minors, the PP proposes prioritizing the determination of their age and the location of their families. Their proposal contemplates that, always attending to the best interest of the minor, they be returned to their family environment or handed over to the protection services of their country of origin.infobae+1

Diplomatic Pressure on Morocco

Feijóo's party wants the Government to summon the Moroccan ambassador to Spain and recall the Spanish ambassador in Rabat for consultations. With this measure, it intends to increase diplomatic pressure in response to the claims over Ceuta and Melilla made by members of the Moroccan Executive.

The PP also demands explanations about the actions of the Moroccan authorities on July 30 and 31. Specifically, it demands clarification on whether they allowed, consented to, or facilitated the massive entry that, according to the popular party, violated a Spanish and European border.

The initiative thus places the response to the crisis on three fronts: political censure of Marlaska, reinforcement of security in Ceuta, and acceleration of return procedures, along with a diplomatic offensive against Morocco.
