The spokesperson for the PSOE in Congress and head of the list for Congress for Vizcaya in the upcoming general elections, Patxi López, assured this Monday in Bilbao that the right is "nervous" because, in his opinion, the interventions of its leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, "are counted as blunders."
López made these statements at the event where the general secretary of the PSE-EE, Eneko Andueza, presented the heads of the list for Congress for the three Basque territories: Patxi López himself for Vizcaya, Rafaela Romero for Guipúzcoa, and Javier Hurtado for Álava.
Asked by the media about the information that alludes to the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard having found appointments of the former PSOE Organization Secretary Santos Cerdán with the prosecutor who allowed "releasing" ETA members after EH Bildu's support for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, López assured that he had not seen that publication.
Regarding that matter, the socialist leader insisted that the only thing the dissemination of that information suggests to him is that "the right is nervous." "The right, and not only the political, but also the media, economic, and judicial right, it doesn't surprise me that they are nervous because every time their leader appears, his interventions are counted as blunders. And, then, what they want is to change the conversation," he stated.
The debate, according to Patxi López, must revolve around pensions
Patxi López has maintained that, at this moment, citizens are talking about whether the public pension system is maintained or if "PP and Vox come, and cut and privatize it," or whether "we continue to advance or go backwards."
"And now they want us to talk about this. These days I'm not going to talk about this, these days what we can talk about is that it's a joy that 15 years ago we ended terrorism. What a joy that 15 years ago we conquered freedom, what a joy that we have been living for 15 years without fear, without fear, freely defending our ideas!" he added.
In the same vein, he stressed that "nothing will overshadow that," no matter how much, as he said, some insist on feeding the other issue. He also highlighted as a "joy" that what was "always demanded of the abertzale left" occurred, that is, "to do politics with the tools of politics." "Well, welcome to these 15 years of freedom," he remarked.
No statement on the arrest of two people in Irun
On the other hand, Patxi López avoided commenting on the arrest of two people last Saturday in Irun (Guipúzcoa), who would be part of a radical group of abertzale ideology already investigated and who have been accused of an alleged crime of terrorism, after information about the Security Forces and the possible location of a place with material, presumably weapons and explosives, was seized from them last month.
The socialist leader said he prefers not to make statements until he has all the information about that case.
Criticism of the suspension of voting in the "grandchildren's law"
In relation to the plenary meeting of the Constitutional Court (TC) that will decide this Wednesday whether to admit the appeal of the Ombudsman against the suspension of voting on the so-called "grandchildren's law," Patxi López wondered who "can conceive that there is a court that says that there are people who have Spanish nationality, but who do not have the right to vote."
The socialist spokesperson maintained that the right to vote is one of the "sacred things" that a citizen of a country has and considered it "incomprehensible" that the Supreme Court has said that "they are Spanish" but "cannot vote."
