The PSOE reacts to the report that puts the Madrid Government in check over the luxury penthouse: "Ayuso has beaten the game. Game over"

The controversy over the luxury penthouse in Chamberí has added a new element after the documentation released by the Community of Madrid included an internal report warning of several shortcomings in the justification of the operation. The document, signed on July 27 by the chief delegated comptroller of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is part of the more than 200-page file published after the appearance of the Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García Martín.

As 'El País' revealed, the comptroller pointed out that the processing of the rental had been carried out "without delving into the study of necessity, suitability" and other economic aspects. Among the observations collected were the lack of a comparison with other similar properties, an insufficient explanation of the rent and associated expenses, and the absence of a study justifying the specific choice of the penthouse.

The report also noted that a technical document had not been incorporated to certify the conformity of the intended use of the property with regulations. In addition, it demanded that the file use homogeneous data regarding the surface area of the property. Despite these observations, the comptroller's pronouncement was favorable and had no suspensive effects, so the processing could proceed. The documentation became known after the Ayuso Government defended the operation and offered its explanations on the acquisition and subsequent rental of the property.

In this context, the deputy spokesperson for the PSOE in the Madrid Assembly, Montse Mínguez, has reacted on social media with a message addressed to the regional president: "Ayuso has beaten the game. Game over. What a troll she has pulled on us."

The operation contemplated that Planifica Madrid, a public company that acquired the penthouse for 6.3 million euros, would pay a monthly rent of 3,000 euros for a decade. The contract also established a grace period of 15 months, so the first payment was scheduled for November 2027. However, two days after the lease was formalized, the regional Executive decided to cancel it.

Ayuso's counselor insists on the lie of "institutional use"

The Minister of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín, appeared this Thursday in the Assembly to explain the purchase operation of the luxury penthouse in Chamberí. During his speech, the Madrid leader defended that the property was acquired by the public company Planifica Madrid to meet needs linked to the institutional activity of the Community, while rejecting that it was intended to become the residence of Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

García Martín maintained that the home, acquired for 6.3 million euros, was planned as support for the different ministries while the works of the Real Casa de Correos are being carried out. «It is acquired mainly as a complement to the institutional activity of the different ministries and support for the dependencies within the framework of the works» that are being carried out in the Real Casa de Correos», the counselor affirmed.

The Community of Madrid has also indicated that the property would have a space for work, another for rest and «occasional accommodation» for visiting authorities or members of the regional Executive. This justification is included in a report dated July 2, almost three months after the acquisition of the property was formalized.

During the appearance, García Martín defended that the operation was financed with Planifica Madrid's own funds and rejected that there were cost overruns derived from the payment of commissions. The public company disbursed 6.3 million euros for the penthouse and also had to face 378,000 euros corresponding to the Property Transfer Tax, raising the total cost to nearly 6.7 million euros.

The counselor insisted on disassociating the Chamberí penthouse from any alleged use as the official residence of the Madrid president. «The Community of Madrid never bought a property for the president's residence» who, as always, lives in her own home», he assured.

García Martín has used a good part of his speech to direct his criticism against the Government of Pedro Sánchez, RTVE, the left and the "ultra-left", whom he has accused of promoting a campaign against Ayuso. In this sense, he has also questioned the information and accusations related to the destination of the property bought by Planifica Madrid.

The property acquired by Planifica Madrid is a residential penthouse located in a residential building and, according to the text, does not have a license to function as an ordinary administrative headquarters. The regional government has defended, however, its use as a complementary space for institutional activity and the occasional accommodation of authorities.

At another point in the appearance, García Martín resorted to a question to reject that the home was linked to the president: "Where is her ghost? Where is the official residence that was going to be given to the president?" The counselor has also pointed out that Ayuso "pays for her home and her vacations" and has mentioned the president's private rental contract to deny any relationship between her and the penthouse acquired with public money.
