Male violence stains the first week of August black: two murders of women in just 24 hours

Male chauvinist violence continues to leave alarming figures in Spain. If the last two cases registered this Wednesday are confirmed, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners would rise to 35 so far in 2026, the worst figure for these dates since 2021, according to statistics from the Ministry of Equality.

The two crimes, which occurred just hours apart, add to the nine women murdered between June and July, the last of them Paula, 27, whose murder occurred on July 31 in Santander.

The first of the cases took place shortly before 1:30 p.m. at the Guardia Civil Command Post in Llanes (Asturias). The victim, a 50-year-old agent, was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner, also a 49-year-old Guardia Civil officer, who died after being shot by other agents when they tried to stop the aggression. Both had three children. The alleged aggressor had open files for male chauvinist violence and, during the shooting, a lieutenant was seriously injured by a shot in the leg. The Government Delegation in Asturias, the regional Executive and the Llanes City Council have condemned the crime and have called a concentration for this Thursday.

Barely four hours later, around 5:00 p.m., a woman was found dead with signs of violence in the back room of an establishment in the Carrefour Infante shopping center, in Murcia. The main hypothesis points to an alleged male chauvinist crime committed by her partner, who fled the scene. The Homicide Group of the National Police, the Family and Women Care Unit (UFAM) and the Scientific Police are keeping the investigation open.

In case of emergency, 112, the National Police (091) and the Guardia Civil (062) are also available. In addition, the AlertCops application allows sending a geolocated alert to security forces when it is not possible to make a call.
