The 79th edition of the BAFTA Film Awards will be held on February 22, 2026 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with actor Alan Cumming as host. This year's nominations, announced today, January 27, by Aimee Lou Wood and David Jonsson, reflect a combination of global high-profile productions and recognition for cinematic diversity, with Sirat standing out for its presence in the Best Film Not in the English Language category.

Oliver Laxe's film continues to expand its list of international awards and nominations after achieving, last week, two Oscar nominations: best international film and best sound. This latter nomination recognizes the work of Amanda Villavieja, Laia Casanovas, and Yasmina Praderas, who have also marked a milestone by becoming the first all-female sound team to be nominated for these awards.

The film, winner of the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, was also nominated for two Golden Globes, in the categories of Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Score. However, it did not win any of the awards, which went to Ludwig Göransson for the music of The Sinners and to the Brazilian production The Mole Agent, which also won against Sirat at the Critics Choice in the category of Best International Film.

Looking at the national scene, Sirat is shaping up to be one of the major favorites at the upcoming Goya Awards, which will be held in Barcelona on February 28. The film goes into the awards with 11 nominations, including best film and best director. An original production by Movistar Plus+, its accolades also include five European Film Awards in technical categories —best cinematography, editing, production design, sound design, and casting director— and two Feroz Awards, for best original score and best trailer.
