The PSOE denounces "harassment and obsession" against Begoña Gómez after the decision to bring her before a popular jury

The PSOE has closed ranks with Begoña Gómez after the decision of the Provincial Court of Madrid to maintain the procedure with a popular jury for the alleged crimes of influence peddling and embezzlement. Ferraz defends the innocence of Pedro Sánchez's wife and denounces that she has been subjected to an "obscene political witch hunt" for two years.

The socialist Organization Secretary, Rebeca Torró, has led the party's public response. "First there were five crimes, now they say two. Neither five nor two nor any," she wrote on her social media. "Begoña Gómez is innocent, and we will repeat it as many times as necessary," insisted the PSOE leader.

Torró maintains that the progressive reduction of the case weakens the narrative built during the investigation and accuses the right of having presented as proven facts accusations that have ended up archived. The socialist official believes that Gómez has been used to politically wear down the President of the Government through his family.

The PSOE has also disseminated a message from its official profile to reaffirm the party's position. "Begoña Gómez is innocent. It is a political case based on fake news to harass and persecute the wife of the President of the Government," states the publication, which summarizes the situation in two words: "Harassment and obsession."

Ferraz maintains that the narrative "continues to crumble"

The socialists highlight that the investigation began with five possible crimes and that the future trial is limited to two. The accusation of professional intrusion was dismissed in an earlier phase and the Provincial Court now eliminates corruption in business and misappropriation. The jury will only have to rule on influence peddling and embezzlement of public funds.

"Accusations that for months occupied headlines have fallen, also the withdrawal of the passport, and the Prosecutor's Office itself continues to request acquittal," socialist sources point out. From Ferraz, they summarize their position with a phrase directed at those who have presented the procedure as proof of guilt: "Much noise and no evidence."

The PSOE also vindicates Gómez's attitude since the beginning of the investigation. It recalls that she has attended all summonses, has presented the requested documentation, and has remained at the disposal of the court. For the socialists, there was never the slightest risk of flight, and the precautionary measures imposed by the controversial judge Peinado were disproportionate.

The Provincial Court has supported this last thesis by returning her passport, authorizing her to travel without judicial permission, and eliminating the obligation to appear every fifteen days. The magistrates maintain the jury procedure but reduce the scope of the accusation made by the instructor. Ferraz interprets these corrections as another sign of the weakness it attributes to the case.

The PSOE responds to the PP's offensive

The socialist leadership has also reacted to the accusations of the Popular Party, which has described the situation as "inconceivable in any European democracy" and has assured that "no democrat should normalize it." Génova has linked Begoña Gómez's upcoming trial with David Sánchez's conviction for malfeasance to increase pressure on the president.

The PP maintains that the resolution demonstrates that "Justice works, despite Pedro Sánchez and his spokesmen." Against that message, the PSOE recalls that the Court itself corrects a relevant part of Peinado's decisions, eliminates two crimes, and revokes all personal restrictions imposed on Gómez and her advisor.

Ferraz maintains that the case originated from a complaint filed by a far-right organization and based on journalistic information that contained false data. The socialists accuse the PP of validating any decision contrary to the Government while silencing those parts of the resolution that question the instructor. The party trusts that the trial will end up demonstrating that the accusations are unfounded.

The PSOE's suspicions about the chosen date

The socialist leadership has also highlighted that the order was made public on the same day that the Court of Justice of the European Union endorsed the compatibility of the Amnesty Law with community law. The European ruling represented significant support for the Government and for one of the most attacked laws by the PP during the legislature.

"It is striking that Begoña Gómez is now intended to be brought before a jury precisely on the same day that the news is marked by the endorsement of European Justice for the Amnesty Law," sources from the PSOE point out. Ferraz avoids making a direct accusation about this coincidence, although it makes clear its distrust of the timing. "Everyone will draw their own conclusions," the socialist leadership concludes.
