Sánchez points out at the UN that the situation in Ceuta represents "one of the biggest migration crises" and urges not to "turn the migrant into an enemy"

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has conveyed to the United Nations General Assembly the situation that Spain is experiencing due to the migratory crisis after the massive entry of migrant people into Ceuta. In this regard, he described the situation as "one of the biggest irregular migration crises in recent years". 

The president explained that the crisis that the autonomous city has been going through since the end of July is due to "inequality, desperation, and disinformation". He also stated that the situation represents "one of the biggest irregular migration crises in recent years." 

The President of the Executive also took advantage of his presence at the UN before European leaders to convey a humanist message. Thus, he urged not to "give in to fear, turn the migrant into an enemy, and violate legality." 

"Spain is not going to do it, and neither is Ceuta," Pedro Sánchez declared. Along the same lines, he continued to vindicate the people of Ceuta, stating that they are "demonstrating that a crisis can be faced without renouncing decency, maintaining legality, and respecting Human Rights."

Finally, he concluded: "We will emerge stronger precisely because of that, because Spain does not choose the easiest path."

Sánchez and Mamdani raise a progressive alternative in New York 

Pedro Sánchez and Zohran Mamdani staged their political harmony in New York this Wednesday around an economic model focused on workers, the strengthening of public services, and difficulties in accessing housing. The meeting took place at the official residence of the New York mayor, Gracie Mansion, within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly and with Donald Trump once again at the head of the White House.

"The powerful fear us," the President of the Government assured during a day that marked the first in-person meeting between the two leaders. Despite this, Sánchez and Mamdani had already strengthened political ties in recent months. The head of the Spanish Executive interpreted the victory of the democratic socialist in New York as a sign that the left can gain ground when it offers "hope and not fear." In addition, Mamdani intervened in April, through a recorded message, at the progressive summit promoted by Sánchez in Barcelona.

Wednesday's agenda began with a bilateral meeting between both politicians and continued with the working breakfast 'Building an Economy for the Majority', held at Gracie Mansion. Also joining the meeting were the President of the European Council, António Costa; the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, and the Governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof.

The meeting served to bring together representatives of different progressive currents seeking to strengthen cooperation in the face of the growth of the far-right and the loss of influence of left-wing forces in various Western countries.

During his speech, Sánchez cited the Spanish experience and the new political stage opened in New York as an example. "Spain is demonstrating that another economic model is possible and New York is demonstrating that this same ambition can transform our cities," he argued.

The president also defended the evolution of the Spanish economy against those who argue that growth and competitiveness depend on containing wages or reducing social protection policies. "Day after day we demonstrate that a different path is possible. And it works," he insisted.
