The co-general coordinator of Movimiento Sumar and candidate in leading positions on the Frente Amplio list for Madrid, Verónica Barbero, has described as a "botch job" the agreement reached between PP and Vox to present joint candidacies for the Senate in several provinces, and has defended that she trusts in the intelligence of the citizenry.
In an interview on RNE, Barbero stated that "the Senate cannot continue to be hijacked by forces that only intend to use it to create commissions and obtain money", while describing the alliance between popular and far-right parties as a "chaotic and very botched" agreement.
Asked about the comparison between the pact of Frente Amplio and PSOE and the alliance sealed this Monday by PP and Vox, the leader of Movimiento Sumar maintained that it is not the same, because in politics "the purposes do count", and defended that the Upper House should not become an apparatus "at the service of a minority of elites", an objective that, in her opinion, the two right-wing parties pursue.
Barbero insisted that her political space wants to govern to "intervene in the housing market in favor of the people, of the working class of this country", and stressed that she intends to have a majority in the Senate to prevent that institution from deviating from what the Constitution and democracy establish.
The disagreement with Podemos and the call to look to the future
In relation to the disagreement with Podemos, having failed to close any agreement, the co-general coordinator of Movimiento Sumar downplayed that rupture and called for turning the page. "We must forget the drama, look to the future and stop looking at ourselves", she said.
Riots in Barcelona and Bilbao
On the other hand, after the riots registered in Barcelona, where the Mossos d'Esquadra arrested 128 minors, and the incidents in Bilbao, where vehicles were burned and clashes with the Ertzaintza occurred, Barbero attributed what happened to "a systematic strategy of ultra provocation" aimed, in her opinion, at "destabilizing the campaign" and "interfering in elections to win what they do not win at the polls".
The spokeswoman described what happened in Bilbao as a "clear attempt by agitators like Vito Quiles to destabilize the campaign and generate incidents", with the aim that, one month before the elections, the media focus shifts to urban violence and people stop talking about issues such as pensions or housing.
In this sense, Barbero supported that violence "benefits the far-right and the right", and pointed to PP and Vox because, in her opinion, the only way for these parties to capture the vote of a social majority is "fear", in addition to accusing them of employing techniques similar to those of Donald Trump.
