Miguel Tellado, general secretary of the PP and campaign director of the party, has asked María Jesús Montero this Wednesday for a face-to-face debate on housing between Minister Isabel Rodríguez and popular deputy secretary Juan Bravo, a maneuver with which the popular party seeks to lead the PSOE to publicly discuss its management in one of the most sensitive issues of the campaign.
The conservative leader has sent a letter to the former vice president of the Government to propose this clash over housing, while the PP maintains that “it accepts the challenge” and wants to measure socialist interest in debating what it defines as the country's primary problem.
The letter makes housing the focus of the clash with Ferraz
Tellado states in the letter that housing has been “the alibi” of Pedro Sánchez to bring forward the general elections, and maintains that the president has failed to fulfill his commitment to exhaust the legislature. The letter thus places the housing debate at the center of the political struggle and links it directly to the electoral call.
The PP also assures that the document was taken by messenger to the socialist headquarters on Ferraz street and that they did not want to collect it there. Minutes later, however, the popular party disseminated an acknowledgment of receipt, so the dispute over the delivery was wrapped in a version and its immediate correction.
In the letter, Tellado insists that housing “grips millions of Spaniards” and suggests that the PSOE must explain its policies. He also launches an irony about Montero and reproaches her, in a critical tone, that this issue cannot wait.
The popular leader also introduces two political references that he attributes to the socialists: the recent cases linked to the companies of the partner of the PSOE spokesperson, Montse Mínguez, who resigned last Friday, and the apartment provided to the former Chief of Staff of the president for a value lower than that of the market. The PP uses them as a background argument, although they do not in themselves provide proof about the housing debate it proposes.
Feijóo shifts the focus to the program and promises measures in 100 days
In parallel, Alberto Núñez Feijóo added this Wednesday, in an event in Seville with the president of the Junta de Andalucía, that if he reaches Moncloa he will approve in his first 100 days an Anti-Squatter Law to evict in 48 hours, a new Land Law and a reform of horizontal property.
The PP candidate has also promised to create a million homes, apply tax deductions for tenants and owners, and activate, he said, “the greatest aid in history” so that young people can buy a house. For now, the holding of the face-to-face debate requested by Tellado remains pending the PSOE's response and whether Montero agrees to turn housing into a direct duel between Rodríguez and Bravo.
