The offensive launched this Wednesday by Alberto Núñez Feijóo against Pedro Sánchez has quickly found a response in the Government and in the socialist ranks. After the leader of the Popular Party declared the "countdown" for a change of Government to have begun and placed corruption at the center of his discourse against the Executive, the Minister for Digital Transformation and Secretary General of the PSOE of Madrid, Óscar López, has replied that the true balance of Feijóo's time at the head of the PP can be summarized as "a lot of mud and surrender to Vox."
During his appearance to assess the political year in Genoa, Feijóo maintained that the Government is in a phase of political exhaustion and presented the upcoming elections as the beginning of a new stage. The popular leader directly pointed to Pedro Sánchez as the political responsible for the cases affecting the PSOE and its environment and stated that "ground zero is in Moncloa. Mr. X is Sánchez himself and his total absence of moral standards". Likewise, he defended that "everything will be known" thanks to the work of an "independent" Justice and assured that the PP will lead a future institutional reconstruction of the country.
The popular leader also predicted new judicial advances in different cases linked to the socialist environment and promised that the PP's arrival in government will not only mean a change of acronyms. "It will not be a replacement, it will be a thorough cleaning," he affirmed when presenting his political project as an alternative to the current Executive.
In response to these statements, Óscar López has questioned Feijóo's leadership and has assured that his trajectory at the head of the main opposition party has been marked by an approximation to Vox. "His time at the head of the PP has only served two purposes. One, to hand over the PP to Vox. It is impossible to differentiate the PP from Vox. They are the same ideas, they are the same proposals, they are the same insults," he pointed out during a visit to the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante.
The socialist leader went a step further by assuring that "Feijóo is the leader who surrendered the PP to Vox," regretting that the main opposition party has, in his opinion, adopted the approaches of Santiago Abascal's party. "It's a shame," he added when evaluating the speech delivered by the popular leader.
Criticism has also come from the federal leadership of the PSOE. The party's Organization Secretary, Rebeca Torró, responded via the social network X to Feijóo's message about the "countdown" to political change. "The PP has been in a countdown since 23J. Without a country project or proposals and with the sole objective of returning to the past," she stated.
Against the strategy set by the popular leader, Torró defended the Executive's management and contrasted it with a future-oriented vision. "We, in a forward count, adding more rights, more protection for people, and more employment. In 2027 we will continue adding and looking to the future," she assured.
