The film ‘Sirat’, directed by Óliver Laxe, was the big winner of the XVIII edition of the Gaudí Awards by taking home eight statuettes, including Best Film in a non-Catalan language and multiple recognitions in technical categories during the gala held on Sunday, February 8, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
The film, which continues to reap successes after its nominations for the 2026 Oscars for Best International Film and Best Sound, dominated the night with awards for cinematography, sound, visual effects, original music, production design, art direction, and makeup and hairstyling, among others.
In parallel, ‘Frontera’, by Judith Colell, surprised by obtaining four awards, including Best Film in Catalan, the Audience Award, Best Costume Design, and Best Supporting Actress for Bruna Cusí. The director dedicated her victory to those seeking refuge and defended the role of cinema as a tool for empathy and memory.
In the interpretive categories, Mario Casas was recognized as Best Leading Actor for his role in Molt lluny, while Ángela Cervantes obtained the award for Best Leading Actress for La furia, and Llúcia Garcia was named Best New Actress for Romería.
Other notable films also included Sorda, which garnered several technical and directing awards, and award-winning titles in animation and documentary, reflecting the diversity and vitality of Catalan and Spanish cinema in this edition of the Gaudí Awards.
