The opposition takes the public purchase of the luxury penthouse for Ayuso to court despite the Madrid government's U-turn

The purchase of the luxury penthouse that the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso intended to use as a temporary office for the president will go to court. Más Madrid announced this Friday that it will report the facts for a possible embezzlement, while the PSOE prepares its own actions before the Justice, the Court of Accounts and the administrative bodies.

The judicial offensive comes after Planifica Madrid decided to dispose of the property just one day after its acquisition became known. The public company paid 6.3 million euros for a 485 square meter home, almost 200 of which were terrace, located on the Paseo del General Martínez Campos in Chamberí. The operation closed on April 14 and remained out of public debate for more than three months.

The Madrid government initially maintained that the penthouse would serve as support for Ayuso and a small team during the planned works in the Real Casa de Correos. The property is listed for residential use and its conversion into an office had been questioned by urban planning regulations. Planifica Madrid had also not included the investment in its 2026 budgets nor had it incorporated it into its transparency page when the purchase came to light.

The Community responded to the controversy by announcing the sale of the penthouse along with four other properties. The Executive estimates that the operations will raise around 20 million euros and has promised to allocate the money to rebuild the municipalities of the Sierra Oeste affected by the fires. The immediate decision to dispose of a property that until then it presented as necessary has reinforced the suspicions of the opposition.

Más Madrid denounces a possible embezzlement

The Más Madrid deputy Hugo Martínez Abarca explained that his party will bring the facts to the attention of a judge to investigate how the decision was made and request the complete file. The party still does not know which officials intervened in the operation and therefore will not initially direct the complaint against a specific person.

"What they said was for office use is a lie," Martínez Abarca stated. The parliamentarian links the public purchase to the real estate movements of Ayuso and her partner, Alberto González Amador, who have put up for sale the two homes in Chamberí where they have resided in recent years.

González Amador is asking for a total of around 3.3 million euros for the sixth-floor apartment and the penthouse located directly above it. The first property went on the market for 1.79 million and the second for 1.63 million. The Madrid government rejects any connection between these private sales and the property acquired by Planifica Madrid.

Más Madrid maintains that Ayuso and González Amador were looking for other homes and that a Presidency official participated in some negotiations. Shortly after, the couple put their current home up for sale and the public company dependent on the Ministry of the Presidency bought a much larger penthouse in the same district.

"Madrileños should not have to pay for Isabel Díaz Ayuso's lavish lifestyle," Martínez Abarca denounced. The party also questions the explanation about the renovation of the Real Casa de Correos, since any major intervention on this Asset of Cultural Interest would require prior planning.

Más Madrid is preparing close to a hundred parliamentary questions and several claims through the Transparency Portal. The party hopes to incorporate all this documentation into the complaint and trusts that a judge can access the papers it has not yet received from the Community. "It will take a long time to give them to us, if they give them to us at all, but they cannot deny them to a judge," the deputy warned.

The PSOE has also decided to explore the judicial route. Óscar López announced that his party will go "wherever necessary" and expressly cited Justice, the Court of Accounts, and administrative bodies. The general secretary of the Madrid socialists believes that the operation could hide a crime and has demanded Ayuso's "immediate resignation."

"We heard her say it was going to be a temporary office, all lies," López assured. The socialist leader believes that the sale dismantles the explanations offered by the Executive and demonstrates that it was impossible to justify the purchase file.

Mar Espinar, socialist spokesperson in the Assembly, has registered thirty requests for information addressed to Planifica Madrid and the regional Government. She has also formally requested to visit the penthouse to check its characteristics and the use it could receive. The deputy has accused Ayuso of having "lied like a scoundrel" and of trying to close the controversy through a quick sale.

Ayuso's Government clings to its "transparency"

The Minister of Presidency, Justice and Local Administration, Miguel Ángel García Martín, has defended that the Community acted with "absolute transparency" and has assured that it maintains the "full support" of the national leadership of the PP. Planifica Madrid depends on his ministry and was the company in charge of buying the penthouse.

García Martín maintains that real estate operations are kept confidential while they are being negotiated and that they are subsequently reflected in the activity reports. The minister has insisted that the property was going to serve as support during the works of the Real Casa de Correos and has defended its sale to finance the recovery of the Sierra Oeste.

The spokesperson has responded to Óscar López accusing him of "saying nonsense" and has presented the criticisms as an attempt to cover up the cases affecting Pedro Sánchez's Government. He has also disassociated the Executive from the sale of González Amador's homes, which he considers a "private matter" unrelated to the autonomous administration.

Ayuso had already attributed the publication of the purchase to a "smear campaign" and denied that the property would become her official residence. "I am not buying anything and nothing is being bought for me," the president affirmed before her Government ordered its sale.

The Community will continue to look for another space to transfer part of the Presidency's activity during the works on Puerta del Sol. Más Madrid will formalize its complaint when it completes the documentation and the PSOE keeps the judicial, accounting and parliamentary avenues open while awaiting a response to its request to visit the penthouse.
